One step (well, six) closer to the end.

Why? Why do human beings insist on building things that can only result in evil robots taking over the planet?

(It's nice to see this place is still hopping, and still full of good folks, after a long absence. I dig the Great Bifurcation, too. Now to catch up on all those posts...)

Do those things gallop? What are they, some kind of knew logging operation machine? Good to see you around. Things don't really ever change do they?

Ugh, it's disturbingly insect-like. Cool, though. Does it count as a robot if there's a guy inside operating it? I also wonder how hard it would be to tip it over sideways.

I'm with Scottie. That's more akin to a Star Wars giant walker than a silicon-brained hopless grasshopper. Plus, it made such a horrible racket that even if it had a brain of its own, it could never be sneaky enough to take over the world. Now, the guy in it might have some megalomaniacal aspirations, and that's what we'd have to watching out for in this case.

ps: did you ever notice that you can't use a track-pad with a band-aid on the tip of your tracking finger?

Tell us something.: Been a fluter, citternist, and uilleann piper; committed now to the way of the harp.

Oh, yeah: also a mod here, not a spammer. A matter of opinion, perhaps.

It's all right, Herbster: It's a diesel/electric hybrid. :)

Right, we'll all be slaves to the machines, but the air will be almost emission-free!

When I first saw those vids, my first thoughts were of a speedy little spaceship flying around it entangling the legs with a trip wire. "Wedge? Wedge?!" So I know now that I'm a geek.

Thanks to all for the warm welcomes; had personal business to attend to, but I hope to be able to join in here more frequently. (If I can find the time: I was recently presented with an old half-set of uilleann pipes, and if I'm ever to have a hope of making them sound like something other than a flock of wounded geese, it's gonna take a scary amount of work.)

I can't say I'm really surprised. It's a Finnish branch of John Deere. I don't know about you but a giant, man-operated ant is the first thing that pops into my head when I think of Finland and John Deere.

On some international tv channel I saw a video by the Finnish group JPP. It started off with all of these people getting on their tractors and cruising down the road. They all pulled up to a building and inside the men stripped down to their undershirts and did a dance that involved bumping their bellies together.

Cheers,
Aaron

I think we're a lot closer than a man at the wheel of a mechanical insect:
