Which maker has the shortest wait time to buy a new set from?

Thanks,

I think Nick Whitmer has a lead time of approx. 4 months. Less than that, I'm not sure the wood of the chanter would have sufficient time to dry after being turned.

Nick's prices are good, as is his reputation. Check out his site:

I think it's also important to understand that wait list times can be somewhat flexible.

If a pipemaker got a slew of orders in a short time frame, that could push things out a bit.

It's always best to check with the maker to see what's in their pipeline and what their expectations are upon ordering.

I remember a story fro ma guy back in the early 80s. He knocked on the door of a pipemaker looking for a practice set. 'i don't have any now but come back tonight and I;ll have one done for you' was the reply. And it was.

Speaking of Ebay:

Or if you're really poor:

Call me crazy but I'd probably go for the first one if I were you.

By the way, have you considered David Daye's pipes? They've probably got the shortest lead time (depending on how much spare time you have).

it probably is, but your man got himself a big boxwood Wooff Bflat during the early nineties. if he still plays, it is probably on that one.

waiting list

Post by teirw »

Brian Howard tries to keep practise sets in stock. www.howardmusic.co.uk and comparatively little time for half sets, though so many people want the new regs that I'm sure there's a wait for those.

If you have an urgent need, tell the pipemaker and they might try to accomodate you. I'd try Brad Angus of Vancouver, WA.
