I use 1/2" staples. The staples are hidden beneath a leather flap. The insert in the valve is a button with a celtic design on it. While air does flow through the button, I have four 1/4" holes on the side of the valve to facilitate air flow. You can't see it in the picture, but the air outlet is ebony (to match the valve).
The end of the connecting tube with the white tape on it fits into the ebony air outlet on the bellows.
The bellows I'm working on now will be the similar, with the exception of permanent pads and a slightly different valve.

Thanks Tony. Yeah I'm serious.
I'm still working on the set to get it just like I want so everything is easy and in tune. I haven't gotten to the bass reg reed yet and the bass drone reed is still clapping shut at higher pressure--sometimes and sometimes not. It's only a couple years old and has basically never been played.
I'll work on a sound clip and see if I can remember how to convert Wave into mp3s and compress it. Maybe I'll get a short video clip and see if someone can host it.
That straight bass drone is long alright. Total length from top of bass reg to bottom of bass drone is 51 inches, but the slider will go out a couple more inches I'm sure. I have to be careful when turning, it might knock someone over.

Here are some pictures of a set of padded bellows I made for someone. I used birdseye maple, ebony and brass. I shape ebony (or other appropriate hardwood) for the air outlet and turn adaptors for the connecting tube. The adaptor show below is from my own set. The other end of the tube has the original Lynch connector that came with my half set.

Not at all. I barely notice the pressure difference when it's on.Douglas wrote:Looks great Mukade. Good job David. Hopefully the extra drone doesn't require too much extra pumping, or bellowing.
David built a nifty Northumbrian pipe-style on/off switch into the end of the drone, so I can still play with a three-drone regular sound.
The extra drone fills a gap between the tenor and baritone drones. It's a slightly harsher sound, but it fits in suprisingly well.
I will post some sound files when I get the time.
