Acronym frenzy
If I would write CARATBA, everyone would be scratching their heads thinking, “What is that supposed to refer to?” A quick search on Google will get you nowhere. Speculation that it may have something to do with a new variety of Mexican jumping bean would be interesting but not accurate. Actually, from the New American Guide to Creative Acronyms, CARATBA is defined as “Caring Americans Rebelling Against the Bush Agenda”. OK, you CARATBA junkies, we have our work cut out for us. Karl Marx said, “Workers of the world unite”. PVC Fluteman Doug says, “Let’s organize and resist the corporate monster that, left to its own resources, will devour this country and its good people.”

I have some more bad news to report, CARATABA fans: W will introduce his budget to Congress today. Because of his previous and continuing tax cuts for the wealthy and also because of the escalating costs of an unnecessary war, huge deficits have resulted. Under the guise of fiscal responsibility, W is proposing massive cuts in critical domestic spending. Here are just a few of the propsed cuts:
1. Federal spending on job training cut by $500 million
2. Funding for police and firefighters slashed by $750 million
3. Drug co-payments for veterans doubled
4. Cutting the low-income home energy assistance program, just as the price of home heating has been skyrocketing
It is no surprise that W and his cronies are planning a massive marketing stratedy to sell the cuts to voters and lawmakers. They will claim that they are not actually cutting critical government programs for the needy, but, instead, are "centralizing government services and saving tax payer money". You would have to be really dumb to believe that line.
