I thought this would be a David Grisman thread.

What is it, why do I want it, and what will it cost?

It's an e-mail account with 1G free storage from google...doesn't cost you anything.

What's the benefit of online storage? Downloading my mail seems a lot better. Don't all ISPs offer their own webmail? Okay, so it's not 1Gb, but does anyone actually save enough email to approach that amount?

Last weekend I emailed an out of print LP to a fellow across the pond in mp3 format. It would have been a lot easier for both of us if he'd had a gmail account w/1GB storage!

Dude. Nobody here needs to talk you into it. Even if you don't use the account, having an extra gig of webstorage is not gonna kill you.

Gmail has had privacy issues with its users, has it not?

I'm fine with Yahoo...
