My Froment set arrived Today

Post by benwalker »

They arrived today. I have had a quick play on them. They need quite a bit of adjusting and the chanter could do with a new reed, as so could quite a lot of the set.
I was disappointed not to be able to put them together and have them singing like a bird.
Still I need to get them sorted out. I'm sure they will play as good as they look!
Anyone have Alain's email info?
They were made for Jim McGuire and perhaps Jim could give me some history on this set? (PM me jim if you could)
Thanks to everyone who has gone through the highs and lows with me
I will keep you all posted

Ben

Ben, you have a Froment set.

I would say that at this point, all is right in your world. :) I know it would be in mine.

I'd be disapointed too. According to the eBay description:

It was fully reeded and rehemped by Alain at his workshop in September and as he said himself was "playing like a dream".

That's only 3 months ago. I'm suggesting you hold on giving the seller feedback and negotiate him picking up the tab for new reeds.

Jim McGuire wrote:The price is private but I can tell you all that it was the result of 20+ years of searching. That whole story will be told sometime soon. Touhey paid $300 for his set from Billy Taylor; I paid more for mine.
I'd be fascinated to hear/read it sometime. I have a big soft spot in my heart for Taylor Pipes. :D Someday....someday.......

Was the set at Froment's workshop? Did Alain say it "WAS" playing like a dream? I don't think a buyer has any argument about reeds especially when they buy from ebay....sorry Ben
