You could do the stand on one leg with opposite leg bent to place its foot on the supporting legs knee thing, but that may be more appropriate for the flute .

You need your feet propped up on something. Works for flute too.
My opinion is stupid and wrong.

quite amazing watching Sarah Allen balancing on one leg, the other bent in a right angle at the hip, playing her flute that's half as long as herself.. :boggle:

Wait, I need to brush off my copy of the Whistle Sutra:

When a player places both of her feet upon the coffee table and the whistle is held to the side, it is called the "relaxed reeling postition".

If the player gets tired and stretches, with the wistle held aloft in the right hand, it is called the "yawning position".

Tell us something.: I play whistles. I sell whistles. This seems just a BIT excessive to the cause. A sentence or two is WAY less than 100 characters.

Tell us something.: I love Irish music! I am mostly a whistle player but would like to learn more about flutes. I also have a couple older whistles I'd like to sell and maybe pick up a bamboo flute to practice with.
