OT My car accident yesterday

Post by irishduffy »

Well I was heading home from work and going around a corner at 40 or 45 the speed limit and my trucks rear end started to slide fish tailing out of control doing a roll over and a flip. I was fine got up and crawled out the window, never blacked out. I managed to slide between a electrical pole and wires with a inch to spare on each side or I may have not been here today. All I can say is the seatbelt and God above must not have wanted me to leave yet.

I guess I am not getting the whistles I was saving for
that was added just for some relevance board. I am more grateful to be alive.

Someone up there likes you...
Close thing,
Glad you're O.K.

Loved and thought himself beloved,
From a glad kindness cannot take his eyes.

Jeeepers! Was the road slick at all?

But happy to hear that you are alright.

I agree dubhlinn someone above was looking out for me. The road was just a little wet from few sprinkles, I have drove it for a few years a freak accident I guess. I have done that speed in down pour, I only wish I could know the cause.

I've read that roads are slickest when they're just slightly wet, not when they've been soaked by a downpour. The reason is that any dust on the road will become a slippery, invisible film of mud when it's been slightly wetted but before it's been washed off by the continuing rain.

Best wishes,
Jerry

Wow. I just had a wreck tuesday morning myself. My first that I had to deal with myself. Kid turns left in front of me going opposite way. Krash!
My whistles were ok, but my Feadog Stain albums are stuck in car for now.
My opinion is stupid and wrong.

I believe the term is hydroplane or hydroplain . . . not sure of the spelling. We learned about that back in driver's ed . . . and I remembered it because it seemed like a real hazard.
Seatbelts are extreamly important. They can mean the difference between life and death. I know too many people who won't wear seatbelts. They don't get it.

Tell us something.: I play whistles. I sell whistles. This seems just a BIT excessive to the cause. A sentence or two is WAY less than 100 characters.

Alive is a good thing! Keep an eye on the ol' bod for a few days. Injuries from crashes like this may not indicate themselves until a day or two later.

I did a similar thing with a VW Bug when I was 17. I was going left around a corner, a truck was coming the opposite way. We were both near the center. I gave in and got on the side of the road. When the car came back on the road the left front caught the edge, went airborne and landed directly on the roof. Colapsed it down to the tops of the windows. It slid right between two telephone poles.

Well, Duff, I know you'll appreciate the photo' of my son's rolled truck at http://www.coastalfog.net/personal/Ken's%20Truck/

He was heading north, toward San Jose on Hwy 101--speeding, I'm sure--when his truck went off onto the median and rolled several times. When it came to a stop, the driver's side window was on top. He rummaged around, found his glasses, and crawled out the window. The first I knew of it was when he called me to pick him up at the junk yard.

Pickups are terrible about fishtailing, because the back end is so light. I was in the left lane of a four-lane road when the light ahead turned red. It was just drizzling, but when I tapped my brake, the truck made an abrupt right-hand turn. Fortunately, it didn't flip, and it was early in the morning, and there were no cars in the right lane. As it was, I just made a neat right-hand turn into the cross street. I'm a pretty conservative driver, but I was forever burning rubber in that darned truck.

I had a friend who carried a whole bunch of concrete blocks in the back of his truck at all times, just for the traction. I don't think they'd have been much fun in a head-on collision, though.

Glad to hear that you're OK, Irish!
What made it slippery is the oily road film from cars that builds up when things are dry. It's slippery when it first gets wet, until lots of rain washes it away, and then it starts all over.
Just as dangerous is those painted lines at intersections when they are wet-don't try to stop quick on them when they're wet-you will just skid along until you reach the unpainted blacktop. Ditto for wet leaves.
Take care, Irish, and hope you're alright.
Everything can be replaced except you!

Wow. Glad you are alright. And I see Station is showing sincere kindness.

Darwin, I'll bet you were glad that you didn't know about your son's accident before he called. My daughters drove to Chicago a couple of weeks ago for the first time without me. I was very nervious.
I'm no longer trying a new posting paradigm
