Post by wallacepiper1 »

Hello,

next question:
Anyone has experience with alexander technique?
Did it benefit your playing?

OK, I'll bite... The only Alexander technique I know is conquering the known world with a handful of Greek and Macedonian hoplites. Clue us in :)

The Alexander Technique: conquer your repetetive strain injuries and while you're at it, knock off those pesky Persians as well.

Hey, it worked for Sting. Apparently, he can keep going all night...Oh wait, sorry...maybe that was something else.

I've had some limited exposure to Alexander Technique concepts many years ago, and I find that they are quite useful in application for piping, flute, pretty much any musical instrument.

Anything one can do to reduce unnecessary muscle tension while playing I think is of great value and goes a long way to preventing injury in the long-run.

...and the Uilleann Pipes are certainly an instrument that seem speciffically designed to promote muscle tension. :boggle:

I'm wondering if Rolfing would help my popping technique? :o

I'd rather be atop the foothills than beneath them.

I think this picture adequately depicts the complicated act of Rolfing.... be careful to keep your kangaroo tied up though or it might run away with two little boys..... but the cat still came back!

Tell us something.: I am interested in the uilleann pipes and their typical -and broader- use. I have been composing and arranging for the instrument lately. I enjoy unusual harmonic combinations on the pipes. I use the pipes to play music of other cultures.

Yes, yes. That much is clear. But I do not understand how filling up the bathtub with machine parts is going to calm the giraffe?

I know a number of violinists and guitarists (classical in both cases) who swear by the Alexander Technique and are all convinced that it helps them play as it assists posture etc.,
By coincidence I am starting a course (session?, class?) on Friday having been persuaded by the same people.
