Newbie Tunes

Post by NZ_Chris »

As a real newbie to the whistles I come seeking the wise counsel of those more experienced than I (i.e. anyone and everyone :) )

What would people suggest as some good basic ITM tunes to start learning with?

I think that most of the Children's songs are good for a beginer. Im finding some complicated songs that are keeping me quite busy. Check out this great site:

Such a great wealth of free sheet music to practice with. Many songs have MP3 files with them to help you. I just found the site today.
I hope reading music gets easier.

Cool ... thanks very much! I like the site, have grabbed some tunes already, including some of the ones that BlackHawk recommended :)

Jigs : Irish Washerwoman, Father O'Flynn, Haste to the Wedding

Reel: The Keel Row

Polkas: Britches full of Stitches, Kerry Polka, Egan's Polka

The first four are so common you have probably already have heard them many times, so they'll be easy to pick up. The Polkas are simpler (fewer notes to learn) but with a real swing to them.

All of the above are great recommendations to a newbie.

Now, if I may wander off the point for a moment...,
Martins avatar has been bugging me since I first saw it.
I recognise the face but cannot for the life of me,put a name to it-you know the feeling.
Now I'm going demented ( not far to go,some would say) trying to figure out who J & W are.
Help me please before it's too late.....

Slan,
D.
