VERY OT: I don't get this one at all...

Latest sex scandal, middle school teacher Debra LaFave is charged with having a sexual affair with a 14 year old student at the school where she taught. Assuming its true, she's ruined her life.

What I really don't get is WHY? The woman is drop-dead gorgeous. Certainly not someone who would have to seek the companionship of a child.

This seems to happen from time to time. I remember the last time a similar case was in the news, the teacher said she was in love, and was going to have his (the students) baby. The student was 13 I think.

Me thinks Chuck has different taste than me... I would say that woman qualifies as being Handsome just on the edge of Quasi pretty. Still I agree... a 14 year old?? That's just gross.

I was going on the TV pictures, which were far kinder to her than that still. I've noticed that when someone is accused of a crime, especially a despicable one like sexual abuse of a minor, the still pictures chosen by the press are often the most unflattering photos they can find.

Well poop I hope I never get in trouble with the law then... If they can make a drop dead gorgeous woman, Handsome. Then the press would make me look like the un-handsome end of a Chimpanze.

Can't explain that stuff...heck, I've had relationships with some truly drop-dead gorgeous women myself...I still can't figure that out!

Since when are "ugly" women automatically desperate?

Anyhow, I suspect the situation has more to do with mental illness on the woman's part than her appearance, pretty or not.

As a follow-up to that story, there was a news item tonight about a study indicating very high incidence of some kind of inappropriate sexual behavior by teachers toward students. Inappropriate was defined fairly broadly (but inappropriate across the board) all the way from sexual contact down to things like telling dirty jokes.

I'm not sure what the answer is, and this certainly is a different order of problem than this teacher having relations with a 14 year old, but I've always been a bit concerned about teachers, who technically can be as young as 22, teaching in high schools, in which students are as old as 19. Strikes me as inherently a bit risky.
