Hi Amy -- after joining in 2001, how did you ever manage to stay quiet so long? I have been a 'semi-lurker' for about a year - but only joined this past week. Blame Jessie's raffle for Jerry Freeman. Is it the tradition to 'introduce' yourself? I may go back to lurk mode if so ... whistle in hand, of course. You are right - the people here are great. I've learned quite a bit of interesting stuff lately -- some of it even relates to the whistle.

Thanks for the welcome everyone. Yes -- it will be much more fun being out of the closet and in "the light". Jessie's raffle for Jerry is part of the blame for me to come out also.AmyK wrote:Oh my goodness! This is just too coool! I now get to
welcome someone and I've only been "official"
for, what, maybe three hours. Welcome to the light, Debbie!
Thanks for joining us!

Hi folks!
It's great to hear from all of you!
My lengthy life as a lurker was due mainly to
the fact that my shy streak is VERY wide and
runs Very deep! As far as "officially" introducing
ones self? I guess you really wouldn't have to.
But many do. For me personally, I sort of felt like
I was a stranger intruding in a privet conversation.
Please don't go back into the lurking mode.
Introducing your self isn't as difficult as I
thought it would be. But then I had some very sweet
"holding" my hand while I did it. So if you feel like it,
just tell us a little something about yourself. I'll be
here, as I'm sure will several others, to hold your hand.
We'd love to hear from you!
Oh, It was Jessie's raffle for Jerry that set me on
this path too!
Thanks again for the warm welcome everyone!
Amy

Well Amy you've dragged another serial lurker out of his closet (or should I say cupboard as I am Scottish, not British you understand). I have been an on and off C&F observer and occasional participant since 1999!! Aye that's right when the old style board was on the go no less.
So when I gave in to my periodical case of WHOA where did I turn? You guys of course. This time it had to be a wooden whistle and after a couple of hours with the fabulous archives I arrived at the conclusion it had to be a Busman. And so it comes to pass - my Bocote prizewinner is winging its way across a dark and roiling Atlantic as we speak (allowing for artistic licence). Can't wait.
I hope to contribute a bit more regularly and give a wee voice to my wee corner of the world.

Welcome, Gerry! I'm so glad you came out of the
cupboard to join us. I like love term by the way! I'm
also relieved to see I'm not the only long term lurker
either!
Congratulations on your new acquisition too! I've never
had the pleasure of playing a Bushman but, from what
I've "heard" around here you've made a wonderful choice.
I'll look forward to seeing you around more, Gerry.
All the best,
Amy

Welcome to all you reformed lurkers.
Wow, I can't imagine staying quiet for even a few days, much less the length of time some of you speak about. That would take more self-control than I have.
Glad to meet ya'll and don't be strangers. This really is a true community you know.

Hey Paul - nice to see you here. There's nowhere to get out to play at the top of the castle - shame or else I'd have obliged. It'll have to be in the grounds.brewerpaul wrote:Play a couple of rounds of Scotland the Brave atop the battlements of Castle Fraser for me, Gerry!
For everyone else's benefit I live nearby said castle although I hope you don't think I live IN it Paul! That really would give you colonial types the wrong idea about your average Scottish punter!
Anyone interested including you Paul can see what the ancient pile looks like here -
