- Tell us something.: I've been playing whistle for a very long time, but never seem to get any better than I was about 10 years ago. I'm okay with that. :)

Anyone know what tune(s) Sharon Shannon is playing on this clip from Phil's site?

It's in the misc. category...can't really link directly to it.
Nice playing (Sharon also play button box and fiddle).

Yep. That's it. He said who he was on one thread and he's remembered by chat regulars. Don't ask me to find it. Too much scholarship one day causes constipation the next.Zubivka wrote:
Now, who are you, if not a newcomer as of late Nov. 03?
If you really are, why play the "initiated insider"?
Or is this verbose nick just a fresh new identity?

Order! Order!
Please refrain from talking in the back there!

Now, does anyone have any further information about the identity of this mysterious mongoose critter? I believe we have determined that he plays the whistle, plays in a band with a musician named Greg (AKA Wandering Whistler/Wanderer) and is fond of serpents (in fact, has invited one over for dinner). Anything else?
Best wishes,
Jerry

It's Rathlin Island; it's on one of her albums (Out of the Gap?). The sheet music is available on JC's, but it doesn't do any good. It's not the notes, it's the delivery.Bretton wrote:Anyone know what tune(s) Sharon Shannon is playing on this clip from Phil's site?

Talk about a talented family -- Sharon has enough talent to make at least three musicians; her brother is a fantastic flute player too; can't remember what her sister plays, but she's no slouch.

Hadn't heard this one before - found this:Zubivka wrote:Maintaining "Pharisians".
"PHARISIAN. N.T.
It was one of the Jewish spiritual groups. The word ''pharisian'' means ''separate''. The pharisians boasted to practice all the law of Moses. They had traditions which put them on an equal stand with the Scriptures. Their form of religion exacerbated their spiritual pride. Jesus-Christ did not bother to challenge them. This he did by loving the people who were captive of the abusive authority of these clerics. Matt 23. Mk 7/1-23. Lk 11/37-44."
I downloaded this from a website so am not responsible for the bad writing.
So, Zoob, are you saying members of this board are prideful separatists?

Zoobeefcka is refering to these dudes:
phar·i·see
n.
Pharisee A member of an ancient Jewish sect that emphasized strict interpretation and observance of the Mosaic law in both its oral and written form.
A hypocritically self-righteous person.
Same thing as the Pharisians historical, but in English usage it's the Pharisees who get the bad "hypocritical, self-righteous" rap.

Stop picking on Phil, he is only trying to be nice. I can understand you're trying to be funny, but since not everybody understand these jokes I think you should leave it, or at least complain in other and more human ways.
You can't complain on the videos that are there for download just because you don't have broadband, how would the quality be on those vids be if you were to se them in dial-up speed.
I, as a broadband user, find the site very good, and I think it would be hard to make both broadbanders and dial-upers happy and still serve all that media stuff.
Good work Phil, keep it up!
