Does Olwell make all wood flutes (no tuning slide or rings)?

Post by Bretton »

Hi. Subject pretty much says it all...

Casey Burns makes some very nice looking all wood flutes that are very reasonably priced, and a step up from his folk flute which I'm currently playing.

Anyone know if Patrick Olwell will also make all wood flutes for a cheaper price than his tuning slide and ringed flutes?

Any other makers doing all wood for a good price?

I'll probably want to step up to a slightly more professional flute in the next 6 months to a year and probably wouldn't be able to spend more than $500-$600.

Thanks for any info!

The price is $650 and they are terrific. He doesn't do them in blackwood, but there are some nice options. They are much lighter in weight than the ones with metal and I prefer the sound and feel of an all-wood head. They are less likely to crack because they don't have metal inside and they are more free to contract. I highly recommend them!

Yup, Eilam did, Jessie and I'm the new owner. Olwell's all wood - in this case, blackwood - flutes have a great sound.

you know Jessie - I though, all wood Olwell will be me thrasher flute
I'll take it everywhere, wont have to worry about it cracking.....
but then when I got it! it was so nice, there was no way in hell I could leave it in my shop, so I replaced it if the M&E that is in my shop now, but as much as I like the M&E, if one is looking for the best flute to be had, and not worry about the slide.....the Olwell has hands down the best.

And it went to a great guy! Paul.
I do miss it though.

I've ordered a Casey Burns boxwood rudall
for 625. This is all wood, of course.
I've never played anything by Pat Olwell,
unfortunately.

Could someone PM or email me Pat's email address? I'll give him a call at some point but I'd like to ask a few questions via email first.

He takes months to answer e-mails. You'd really be better off calling him.

I also emailed Dave Copely to see how much an all wood flute of his would be...haven't heard back yet. Anyone out there have an all wood Copely?

I also may look into Mark Hoza's Kything Flutes (all wood). Do they have a good reputation?

I have an all-wood flute that Dave Copley and I made together to the measurements of his instruments. It's a terrific flute!! Here's a picture.
