This thread didn't start off all that pretty, and age hasn't made it anything but uglier.

Time to let this one die and be buried, don't'cha think?

Preferably with garlic in its mouth and a stake through it's heart. This thread's worse than Count Dracula for refusing to die.

Just for the record, my last post was a joke.
I have nothing whatsoever against owls.

I think one of the simple (but difficult) things we can all
do to make a better world is to stop
demonizing the people with whom we
disagree. Best

Let's each put a post a day here saying that this thread must die!

As i said before, i think threads like this serve a purpose, to keep the nastyness out of the on-topic threads.

Glauber,

You just may have a point there.

Kind of like a filter for the sludge at the bottom of the pool.

Except in this case it's at the top of the page! :)

My theory is that we live with so much pressure, disappointment and pent-up rage that we have to blow steam somewhere. Better to make fools of ourselves on the Net than to go postal with live ammunition.

Tell us something.: I play whistles. I sell whistles. This seems just a BIT excessive to the cause. A sentence or two is WAY less than 100 characters.

What is the REAL shame is that I started this thread as a rib on WHISTLE players that read music while playing their WHISTLES! Sure, there was some underlying hint at other ideas, but it was still about WHISTLES and WHISTLE players and conveyed that message VERY clearly.

At the beginning some poster caught that spirit of it all and posted some cleverly worded and very punny words.

Then ............

I think you are right.

No matter what someone's beliefs, perspective, or convictions, we are all living in a rather unfriendly world these days. I think having a safe place to vent is actually a very useful function for boards like this one from time to time.

It makes unpleasant reading for scared newbies, though...so I am hoping to see a lessening of the sociopolitical / religious warfare threads.

Oh, please...let's have more of this "death to this thread" chant. Don't let it stop now. I find it healing. If most of these OT threads didn't become so shallow and self-serving...I might die for want of laughter. (of course I laugh at my own posts..you'll never know how hard)

Death to this thread!

Die, O Thread of Contentiousness.

Die.

Be thou snuffed out into oblivion and flung beyond the reach of memory, and thy worm-eaten soul ground into dust. May recorder players and banjoists torment thee up to the hour of thy rubbing-out.

DIE.

Why can't we all just get along, and embrace this thread for all it's faults? Nobody's perfect, after all. I don't think any thread should have to die.
