'From The Very First You Caused Me Nothing But Misery'
by Jim Stone

More of my efforts, balm for the aching heart...

'You Squeezed the Toothpaste in the Middle of the Tube,
I shoulda Known Then You're a MegaBoob!'

'Soon You'll Want To Be My Friend, I Suppose,
I'll Smile and Bite you on the Nose...'

'You Left Me For Melvin? How Very Nice.
I hope the Bugger Gives You Lice.'

'You Wanna Come Back? Too late, Cherie!
(Hee, Hee, Hee, Hee, Hee, Hee, Hee, Hee!)

These (sung softly by candlelight) and
the passage of a couple of weeks always do the trick.

Feeling 20 things at once, remorse, regret, failure, relief, betrayal, denial, rage, affection, isolation, resignation, condemnation, rejuvination; all flowing together in miasma that ebbs and flows with the minutes and hours. This I remember from the breaking of my first marriage.

There is hope, these things will swell and flow but eventually a sense of balance is achieved as life continues. I found that many tunes and songs helped bring these vague feelings into clarity and resolution.

Hearing and especially playing a number of songs, helped bring feeling out as the range of music found resonance in my heart and soul. Playing through my song list also reminded me that life was a lot more than the one relationship that had failed.

So sit and play, not a single song but many. Don't fear feeling the intensity of each emotion that comes to the forefront borne on a melody, knowing each is just one of many, just as each melody finds its resolution, so will each of the emotions invoked find resolution.

Just Play

Play joy, sorrow, longing, and mystery.
Play impish, snippish, mischievous, prankish.
Play hope, dread, confusion, and consternation.
Play rage, regret, worry, and wonder.
Play the sunrise, moonrise, and the first cup of coffee in the morning.
Play the babes first step, the bridal dance, and the last step to grave.
Play the seaside, the canyon, the rapids, and the falls.
Play the thunderstorm, the mist,
the first sunny day of spring,
the gentle breeze of the last leaf falling.

Just Play

and remember to ...
Enjoy Your Music,
Lee Marsh

Three days after I wrote "When the Rain Comes," the woman I love returned a gift to me, sending me a clear message.

As for listening, Lisa Haley's "Until the Sun" (at Bluefiddle.com) helped me through some dark days.

When the Rain Comes 8-9-2002

When the rain comes, I see a rainbow
When the tears come, I see a smile
When my heart breaks, I know I’m ready
For a love that knows no bounds.

When the rain comes, I feel a warm glow
When the tears come, I feel sparkles
When my heart breaks, I know you’re with me
Even though you said goodbye.

When the rain comes, there is a new day
When the tears come, there is new light
When my heart breaks, it is a measure
Of the love I feel inside

When the rain comes, when the tears come,
when my heart breaks, I know I’m ready
For a love that knows no bounds.

What I did after my last big breakup was all the things I couldn't do when in a relationship, e.g. take a random road-trip somewhere, or go do things of interest to me that my ex would have found excruciatingly boring, and so forth.

Tho it's been years since my last relationship, I still think this every time I drive up to East Durham for Irish Arts Week, or concertina school, or make other random musical pilgrimages: gosh, I sure am free right now.

Thanks, Lee. And, again, thanks to the rest as well.

Al Yankovic's "Since You've Been Gone"

Since you've been gone
Well, I feel like I've been chewing on tinfoil
Since you've been gone
It's like I got a great big mouthful of cod liver oil
Oh well, I'm feelin like I stuck my hand
Inside a blender and turned it on
You know, I've been in a buttload of pain
Since you've been gone

(Since you've been gone)
I couldn't feel any worse if you dropped
A two - ton bowling ball on my toes
(Since you've been gone)
It couldn't hurt any more if you shoved
A red - hot cactus up my nose

Since you've been gone
Well, it feels like I'm getting tetanus shots every day
Since you've been gone
It's like I've got an ice cream headache that won't go away
Ever since that day you left me
I've been so miserable, my dear
I feel almost as bad as I did
When you were still here

But Weird Al's "One More Minute" is pretty uplifting, as well.

DEFINITELY LEONARD!!!
These also come to mind, in no particular order "Accidentally, Like a Martyr" and "Reconsider Me" (Warren Zevon), "Downtown Train" and "Shiver Me Timbers" (Tom Waits), "Say It Isn't So" (as sung by Stacey Kent), "Like A Hurricane" (Neil Young), "Have A Little Faith In Me" (John Hiatt), "Nothing Compares To U" (Sinead O'Connor), "Kiss Me" (Sixpence None The Richer)... and I could go on.

Feel better! :)
