New Whistle Comparison: Gen D, Oak, Burke, Syn, Serpent

Post by peeplj »

Hey guys and gals, here's my latest comparison recording:

http://www.flutesite.com/samples/5burkecomp.mp3

This is the reel "The Green Mountain" on the following whistles:

1. one of the rare darn-near-perfect-out-of-the-box Generation D (brass, redtop)

2. Oak D

3. Burke Al-Pro D

4. Syn D

5. Serpent D.

I apologize to any modem users in advance--the file is 1.4 meg, bigger than I like them to be. I can't pull the file size down much more without loosing some of the critical differences in sound from whistle to whistle though.

Please keep doing these comparisons, this is really interesting, and many thanks for taking the time!

What model of Serpent D are you playing?

The Serpent is a copper tunable that Bill made for me.

The head is his old design before he went to curved windway.

It's a really nice whistle!
