I belive Janice and Jeff are right. Chord progressions can't be protected by copywright law (but melody can). Besides, Morrisons Jig is a traditional tune, right? If you can prove that, they can't hold anything against you. It would be more likely that Metallica had taken the Chord progression from the trad tune, but no one could sue them for that because trad tunes are not protected by copywright law, and that my friend is exactly the reason why you can't be sued.
Get a good lawyer...
Good luck

Sheesh! This is ridiculous, man! :boggle: They are probably just looking for a settlement. I'll bet this lawyer has tons of frivilous lawsuits like that flying around. When I get hit with junk like this, it usually doesn't even get to court, but an attorney needs to get involved on your end. Good luck with it, and too bad for the waste of your time that it will probably be.

good grief!

Now why didn't I read Geek's link there before I posted? :D I got so mad about it I just put in a reply that I thought would help. That was pretty good Brassblower. You got me. :moreevil:  It really is unbelievable the lawsuits are flying around out there. As everyone knows, some of our court systems are totally clogged with frivilous lawsuits from correctional institute inmates. It's a shame. Just a bunch of people wantin' somethin' for nuthin'.

Tell us something.: I play whistles. I sell whistles. This seems just a BIT excessive to the cause. A sentence or two is WAY less than 100 characters.

If you can't beat them, sue them!

[Edited so as not to completely kill the fun immediately. Please, folks: read carefully, and remember that a wee bit of skepticism is a good thing!]

If you want let in on the gag, you'll note that the "411mania" link above brings you to the "scoopthis" website as reporting the story. Well:

http://www.scoopthis.com/pages/article. ... boutus.htm

(and while you're there, there's a little link that says "Whatever You Do, Do Not Click Here", or something. Do not click there. I'm warning you.

Being unhip and out of touch with the popular culture of my own civilization, I must plead utter lameitude. Yes, I am lame. So lame.

I think I'll go play some music, now. I'll hit a sour note just for you, BrassBlower. :P

Aww, c'mon, Aaron, you KNOW that when you tell someone not to do something, they automatically want to go and do it!

And he's right. You do NOT want to click there. LOL!
