Tell us something.: Been a fluter, citternist, and uilleann piper; committed now to the way of the harp.

Oh, yeah: also a mod here, not a spammer. A matter of opinion, perhaps.

Gaelic usually puts the stress on the first syllable unless it's a compound word. Although the name of the band Danú has the "long mark" on the "U". it doesn't imply stress, but pronunciation. Without it, the "U" would be more of a schwa sound. So, Danú would be pronounced "DON ooh", not "don OOH", or "dan YOU".

Which makes me wonder that with the accent mark, I'll hear Lúnasa rendered "loon OSS ah"...

(edited for spelling)

Well, it's how Karan Casey pronounced it, when she was finishing her opening set and announcing that LOON uh suh would soon be up. But maybe she just doesn't know. ;)

Btw, I have it on good authority that Solas is pronounced SUH luhss.

Yep, this is the correct way.

Tell us something.: I used to be a regular then I took up the bassoon. Bassoons don't have a lot of chiff. Not really, I have always been a drummer, and my C&F years were when I was a little tired of the drums. Now I'm back playing drums. I mist the C&F years, though.

I'd think that Karen Casey would know since she's Niall Vallely's mate and Niall is Cillian's brother :)

I always figured it was a spelling 'take off' of Lughnasa, and pronounced it accordingly.

It is, they are two different spellings for the same word.
