A Whistler's Sonnet

Post by Walden »

From springs within, bear up, O living breath,
Be not so quick dispersed into the night,
But fill the air with words that music saith,
In breaking cross the whistle's blade in flight.
O fly upon the singing pipe, ye hands,
In grace-filled movement, guide the air alway,
To bend the sounds to what the heart commands,
To fill the night with music's sweet bouquet.
Reveal thy way, O ears, to guide the sounds,
Reveal the way the music ought to go,
For thou hast sense to keep it in its bounds,
To let the music ever-sweetly flow.
A world that had no music would be sad,
But, there is music! Let us all be glad!

I like it!

The few sonnets I've written were difficult to get right. It looks like you have succeeded in both style and substance.

Tell us something.: Been a fluter, citternist, and uilleann piper; committed now to the way of the harp.

Oh, yeah: also a mod here, not a spammer. A matter of opinion, perhaps.

Bravo. Sonnets can be very demanding. I composed only one a number of years back, and still feel exhausted recalling it. :boggle:

Tell us something.: I used to be a regular then I took up the bassoon. Bassoons don't have a lot of chiff. Not really, I have always been a drummer, and my C&F years were when I was a little tired of the drums. Now I'm back playing drums. I mist the C&F years, though.

I love the first two lines especially, Walden.
