Fast Cash from Ireland?

Post by Loren »

I know there has been discussion on international financial tranactions here on the board in the past, but I'm not sure anyone has asked the following: What is the quickest way to transfer money from say Ireland to the US? Paypal seems to have a 4 day delay for new Euro users. A wire transfer can take up to three days, and there doesn't seem to be a western union office near the local pub (that's a joke). Any other suggestions? Overnight global express mail (from the pub)? Supersonic Sherpa service? Ideas Anyone?

I've mailed cash to Ireland before via standard first class mail and it only took 4 days to get there. I'm sure there are faster ways.

I did a wire transfer to England last year and it was there the following morning... cost $45
It would probably cost the same to send a check overnight express, but you have to deal with getting a check drawn on US funds and that might be the holdup.

Most Europeans are unaware of it,
but most of their major Post Offices
actually are Western Union agents.

This goes for Ireland, too.
This shouldn't be too far from the local pub, even if it takes a short drive from the sticks.

Go http://www.westernunion.com/homePage.asp
click the "FIND AGENT LOCATION" link
Select Ireland
etc.

FWIW, Paypal has a service where you can supposedly send money to anyone with an email address. I've never checked it out myself, so have no idea how it works. Good luck on your quest...

Western Union is pretty universal. I just sold a set of Highland pipes to a gentleman in New Zealand and he payed with Western Union. Zub's right about the post office.
Cheers,

Thanks again folks, looks like the buyer used the wire transfer instead, so we'll see how long that takes.....
