There's a clip on the NPU Source of John Tuohy playing an air called Lá Fhéile Pádraig (http://pipers.ie/source/media/?galleryI ... iaId=25811). He does a very pipe-y sort of D modal thing with it, but what is clearly a version of the same tune also appears on page 327 of Petrie in a rather more sprightly E flat version.
Neither is any relation to the more common set dance of this name.
Does anyone know anything about this air or know of anyone else who's played it?
Lá Fhéile Pádraig - slow air

Well John did mention Nioclas Toibin. You can hear his singing on YouTube https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0TGRIDWhYIU
As a matter of interest, how is a version "more sprightly" if it is still on the page, rather than made sprightly by the playing of a person?

Re: Lá Fhéile Pádraig - slow air
Given the key and the intervals implied by it in Petrie, it's a very obviously brighter sounding tune - although recognisably the same air underneath. I do find it interesting how the character of airs in particular changes over time.As a matter of interest, how is a version "more sprightly" if it is still on the page, rather than made sprightly by the playing of a person?
Cheers for the tip on Toibin.
