Unusual Whistle

Post by mikeandval »

I have an interesting whistle that I would like some feedback and identification on it as I have never seen one before. Unfortunately, I can seem to drag the picture into into this message. Can you help?

Can you see the link below?

Hi, welcome. Upload your whistle picture to a photo sharing site (Flikr, tinypic.com, etc.) and post the link here. We don't host photos on this board.

No, your computer's desktop is not a photo sharing site (or internet server). See previous post ...

Please try the link below to see the whistle that I need to be identified.

Many thanks for all your interesting replies. The knob below the fipple window has a small hole in it which suggests the needle music stand suggested in one of the replies below.

Yes, it is unusual. What is that knob below the fipple window?

For the bubble blower ? Aren't these what they used on the Lawrence Welk St. Patrick's Day show ?

Oh, yeah: also a mod here, not a spammer. A matter of opinion, perhaps.

Oh right. I forgot about the need for a constant supply of whistle fuel. And manual carburetion is so inconvenient.

You can also connect a vacuum pump for autowhistling, when you're just too pooped to puff.

Or maybe it's the tuning knob.

Looks like some kind of membrane resonator (ala kazoo) to me.

Always entertaining here I must say...

Just guessing, what do I know... perhaps the contraption attaches to some kind of stand so it can be played without holding it (just fingered) ?

Foky-Gruber or Hopf Foky-Gruber 'Silberton' recorder. But that knob/carb thing's not normal and appears to be a user modification.

Good catch, Peter. My browser truncates the right side of the photo by default, and I missed the double holes entirely.

The ligature holding the fipple block is unusual, too.
