Tell us something.: I'm a fiddler and, latterly, a fluter. I love the flute. I wish I'd always played it. I love the whistle as well. I'm blessed in having really lovely instruments for all of my musical interests.

Would that be previously owned by Kevin Rowsome? Surely not made by him, is it?

During the early nineties he was doing the musical instrument making course in the London College of Furniture as far as I remember. so it's likely he did make a few chanters.

Ah. OK. I didn't know that. Thanks Peter. I should be seeing him in a few days, so I'll ask him if he knows about this one up on eBay.

FWIW, the chanter has been for sale on the forum for ages. At least, I assume it's the same one.

Cillian O'Briain full set in D UK, collection in person preferred.

Kevin Rowsome made me a chanter in about 1992. During our correspondence via snail mail he said he was using his grandfather's tools.

Tell us something.: I am a walrus, I am a tea pot. John Lennon said that but people see him as a guru. Well, tell, you what he also almost became a piper asking Paddy Keenan to teach him. (bleep) got bored & went on the sitar and the rest is history.

Got to say they are a pretty ugly set, esp the reg keys. Be nice to have some sound files/vids too. Cillian's work is of course superb, but boxwood can shrink and warp can't it?

Still good to see the nice sets can be bought now and then for those with the ££$$. To be honest I'm happy with my half set, prob add chanter keys when I have the ££ but how many folks buy regs and never play them? They are a lot of cash for a pose.

the o'briain set looks like a good deal for someone because I'd have thought that from the maker they'd be about 7 grand, so the premium for avoiding a decade's wait is reasonable I think

I'd wonder if the regs are made by Cillian, the only type of keys I've seen made by Cillian are the ones pictured below which are different from the one for sale which strike me more like Andy Fadens or Gorden Galloways work pictured below that again

Cillian also uses the same key work as Gordon Galloway and Andy Faden. The three makers all use the same manufacturer who makes keys for them all. The Chanter looks almost Howard like... Less scalloped and more of a flat table on the chanter.
