Looking for an honestly, authentically Irish, Uilleann-friendly Christmas carol to contrast with the Wexford Carol for performance this friday 12.21.12.
Setting is parochial school assembly where contrasting carols from several bagpiping traditions are featured. thanks.

Re: Wexford Carol companion
I was under the impression that this was a very old tune and definitely in the public domain. It was recorded by the Chieftains on the Bells of Dublin where it's noted as a traditional tune. I learned it as a child (which is starting to feel like a long time ago ... )CHasR wrote:...kinda hopin for a public domain tune, though.. o well, Too bad

I have the music and words in a book and it says it's very old.

Re: Wexford Carol companion
It's not a "traditional Irish" jig, but we've followed "Wexford Carol" with "I Saw Three Ships"," and it's really quite a nice combination.

Re: Wexford Carol companion
The Wexford Carol has got to be one of the least pipe-friendly tunes. I've performed it in G and in A and in both cases you get a workout on the keys.
I played it on this album, in G, and it was OK using the Fnat key, but I only had to play the first section of the tune. The high part is trickier with all those Fnats.

Thanks all for the input!
Alas, there was only time for Wexford Carol,
and it IS indeed a finger-twister of a workout;
but, it's one of those "once-learned, seldom forgotten" pieces.
See yous all next year!
