Your toys
A global version of the "your flute" or "your fiddle" threads...
Most of the people in these boards consacrate significant musical time to one Irish traditional instrument, be it a truly traditional one or a newly incorporated one. Most Irish trad players don't only have more than one specimen of their main instrument, but they also have secondary traditional instruments that they can play with more or less success Someone who's also versed in educated music will probably have extra instruments on top of that as well.
So, list your toys or share information about them here!

Re: Your toys
Here are mine. I expect this list to be quite modest when compared to most users'
Instruments I can play:
-A blackwood key-less Copley flute in D
-A couple of tin whistles (mainly used as fingering practice for the flute, I don't take them to sessions)
-One La Patrie classical guitar
-1/2 fiddle (as in, I have a fiddle, but it needs a few fixes before it's playable; also, no bow!)
Instruments I can play *with*:
-A wooden recorder in C
-A medieval oboe
-A highland pipe practice chanter
-A harmonica
-Wooden spoons (they never leave my house, don't worry!)

Re: Your toys
Sometimes I want another instrument then I think where am I going to put it and when will I be spread so thin as to have it make my music suffer. So far playing other instruments has been an "eye-opener" and had a symbiotic, helpful outcome on my playing of other instruments. I'll name them in chronological order.
1. Trumpet (rarely played, school instrument)
2. 3 guitars, 2 (EKO & a Gibson) in need of repair and my playing guitar which is a Breedlove.
3. 3 fiddles, one on a temp/permanent loan, a five string in temp/permanent need of strings and my main fiddle.
4. A Venetian mandolin which I love, even if gibson bluegrass mandolin dudes turn up their noses at.
5. 2 Flutes, a Skip Healy and a middle of the road Armstrong.
6. Some tinwhistles; clarkes and generations, although I've been playing whistle since I was young, my kids had their way with them as they were growing up. I lost my first and a few cherished sentimental ones, but I feel the music is more dependent on the whistler not the whistle. Heresy, I know.
7. Puerto Rican Cuatro, a five coursed, steel string instrument with a scale length about 3/4 of a guitar. I tune it DADAE these days. good for tunes and backing, it's smaller boy keeps it from overpowering.
8. A nice Mountain Dulcimer that was gifted to me, it's an interesting instrument that too often gets a bad rap.
9. misc woodwinds, quena, recorders, fifes etc and an old Vega banjo; which I can play pretty well, but being a gentleman, I choose to leave it in it's case. Oh and a bodhran (also gifted) which I leave alone too, not a fan of the thumpety thump.
I think that's about it.

Re: Your toys
Before this year I knew nothing about Irish music. But I got my first guitar 43 years ago, so I've amassed an assortment of musical instruments since then. For the record:
I have twelve tin whistles (only two are made out of tin.)
One Irish flute (WD Sweet SHANNON) and one home-made PVC "Irish" flute.
One Boehm flute.
Two plectrum banjos
Six acoustic guitars
Three electric guitars
One electronic keyboard
Two ukuleles (plus one borrowed uke)
One ocarina
One tambourine
Pictures to come...
My background is rock and traditional jazz. In the near future I want a trichordo bouzouki and a tenor banjo.

Re: Your toys
Acoustic guitars (small, large, steel, nylon, 12-string, 6-string, etc etc), electric guitars, various ukuleles in different sizes&shapes, a bunch of whistles, lots of blues harmonicas, a recorder (which suffered badly from an attempted tweak to shift it into tune - I should buy a new one), a keyboard (which is the one I can't play much for real). Currently researching: Mandolin. Nearly bought an ocarina in Japan but I'm not sure what keys are good.. they certainly didn't have any in D
There may be some more instruments I can't recall at the moment.

- Tell us something.: I'm a fiddler and, latterly, a fluter. I love the flute. I wish I'd always played it. I love the whistle as well. I'm blessed in having really lovely instruments for all of my musical interests.
