I dunno, Serp. Maybe a an Overton full O' Bushmills might do the trick... Erm....... NAH! VILLAGE SMITHY! There can be only one!serpent wrote:Okay, but don' even _DREAM_ about usin' Guiness fer that!Chuck_Clark wrote:The obvious choice would be my Overton Low D, but I ain't ABOUT to risk that!
I'd just quickly tape the holes on my Susato Dublin Low D and fill it with sand or an otherwise useless fluid - Budweiser, perhaps.

Which whistle would you choose to...

Definitely my Chieftain Gold low-D.
I could crack a dozen heads with it, without the slightest risk to the whistle. It weighs easily twice what the Chieftain Bass Bb weighs. The trick is to hit 'em with the fipple-end, the fipple plug is solid brass, which weights that end significantly, as well as practically eliminating the chance of distorting that end of the tube.
Hmm, the "shilelagh reel" for whistle.

In my left hand and mouth, my Generation high G 'Worsened'—you know, the one you tried to tweak and, well, things didn't quite work out, did they. In my right hand, my Overton low D for any fool still left in the room after the Generation has done it's worst.
Hey, have you noticed. We seem almost to be reaching consensus here.

The Whistle I'd choose to fight my way through an unruly mob would be some sort of Low whistle (preferably D or lower), made of a stout material. Something with a good heft and balance to it.
Light spills into the hidden valley,
Illuminating the falls, paths, and
The breathtaking Elvish dwelling
Set back among great trees.
Lilting strains of Elven songs fill my heart;
I am finally home. ~Isilwen Elanessë

The Serpent I have would definitely make a good little bludgeon.
For sheer dangerousness, though--have you ever noticed how sharp the end of an unpainted Clarke is? I tried to use one for a back scratcher once and bled all over my shirt.

You're a dangerous man, James! I don't know how Shannon puts up with living around such violence!peeplj wrote:The Serpent I have would definitely make a good little bludgeon.

I just don't know. Personally, I'm not all that fond of Guinness, preferring Harp or perhaps a nice three fingers of Glenlivet or BlackBush.
On the other hand, this opens up whole new possibilities. Since I can't play the big ol' thing anyway due to the gargantuan spread and size of its finger holes, perhaps it'd make more sense to plug the holes permanently but with a removable plug at the bell end. Then, since Guinness or Harp weighs as much as Budweiser or Stag, I could fill it with my beverage of choice. After clearing the melee, I'd then have refreshment at hand.

That is the first thing that I thought of!Paul wrote:2 words... VILLAGE SMITHY
But what about a VS in a low D
Just imagine--
Wrapped leather grip between the fipple and the first hole. Maybe some blunt blades welded below the sixth hole.
This would be a good whistle for like a medieval faire or something.

You just had to get me started...
Okay, you heathen Faire-goers -- It shall be done. I will make exactly one Village Smithy Low D Bludgeon/Whistle with leather-wrapped handle and a shoulder sling, will sign it, and will put it up for raffle here on C&F. Proceeds to go to the up-coming Anna Martinez charity "do". Beware. The tix for this one will not be cheap, but it's a very, very worthy cause. Hey, we did $125 for The Hunger Site - let's try to top that X10!breedlovejumbo wrote:That is the first thing that I thought of!Paul wrote:2 words... VILLAGE SMITHY

Don't bid right now. I'll let you know when it's ready, with much fanfare and photographs!
