bands that have an Uilleann piper
Just out of curiosity can you name some bands ,local or otherwise that has an Uilleann piper as a member. It would be interesting to see how many there is and maybe, if they have a web page or clips on Youtube to have a listen to them.

- Tell us something.: I am interested in the uilleann pipes and their typical -and broader- use. I have been composing and arranging for the instrument lately. I enjoy unusual harmonic combinations on the pipes. I use the pipes to play music of other cultures.

What do you mean by "bands"? More than a duo? Do they have to rock and/or roll?

Re: bands that have an Uilleann piper
Full time? Uilleann pipes or any type of piper?
My favourite band, Finvarra's Wren, used to have a full-time piper, and still now occasionally has one that guests.
@Tommy: My guess is he means groups that label themselves a band. Duos and Trios may count, or may not, depending on how they view themselves. Generally I would think of a band as a group that has melody player(s), accompaniment, and often a singer. There's lots of grey areas, for instance the Martin de Cogain Project isn't a band per se, but he does usually have a band with him.
Finvarra's Wren is definitely a band, but when the fiddler and I play as a duo, I wouldn't say we are a band...
For Rory, here's an older video with their previously full-time piper (not me!): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OhAp2KL1YZg
Here's what they sounded like more recently (almost a year ago though) http://soundcloud.com/finvarraswren

Re: bands that have an Uilleann piper
Piper Ben Jaber is in the San Diego Symphony. Is that a band? If so, it meets the literal criterion of "bands ,local or otherwise that has an Uilleann piper as a member." Doesn't say that the piper has to play the pipes.

Re: bands that have an Uilleann piper
Many years ago (2002?) I was in San Francisco over St. Patrick's Day and saw a band called Culann's Hounds. Conall O'Raghallaigh was the piper. I don't know if they are still together, or if there have been any personnel changes over the years, but was a great (piping oriented) traditional band when I saw them.
Re: bands that have an Uilleann piper
They don't exist anymore, but there used to be a nice little swedish band called Ivy Leaf with a fantastic piper, Jörgen Fischer:

Cuts & Crans with Hasse Ljungdal on the pipes, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dh3-l1KL ... ature=plcp
And then there's a band from Gothenburg with a piper named Ralf Nyrén, playing mostly swedish music called Bordun (http://www.bordun.se/), litterally meaning "drone". Those are the more or less local bands with pipers that spring to mind anyway.

I tried to compile as many as I could find on iTunes for a page on my website. It'll be interesting to see if any more surface that can be added to the list:

Re: bands that have an Uilleann piper
Lunasa and the Chieftains are the obvious answers. Rig the Jig isn't far off. Cran, maybe? Planxty and the Bothy Band, of course. I once saw a gig where Jarlath Henderson guested in Daimh. Does that count?
Neither I nor anyone I know plays in these (obviously). Just sayin'. Although while we're on the subject of local name dropping, Dave Munro played with a Glasgow band called Setanta. I also have some recordings of an uilleannn piper, Christy O'Leary, playing with the Boys of the Lough.
