What makes you think he didn't? That's what's so distinctive about his flute-playing..... :D

Tell us something.: I'm a fiddler and, latterly, a fluter. I love the flute. I wish I'd always played it. I love the whistle as well. I'm blessed in having really lovely instruments for all of my musical interests.

Thank you very much, IB! :)

Well, thanks to everybody, for your good wishes before the event, and faith after. It's very much appreciated.

Something weird ... I swear I'm playing noticeably better now than I was just over a week ago up to and when I took the exam. I wonder what that's to do with?

It's the Christmas spirit, Ben. On Boxing Day, you'll wake to find your flute playing will be back to being crap. :P

Oh, I doubt it, you know. I mean, I'll be playing God's own instrument.

I don't think it's surprising that you're playing better. Once you get some decent chops on an instrument a lot of the way you play has to do with state of mind. If you feel good you can play beyond yourself and if you're not in good form you can play well below your capabilities. Your achievement has probably made it more obvious to you that you've stepped up a level on your new(ish) instrument. Well done, it's nice when putting the effort in starts to pay off.

Just don't let your flute and your fiddle come anywhere near each other. When God's own instrument meets the Devil's own instrument, it will trigger the Apocalypse. And you'll have quite a mess in your music room to tidy up.

Titter......... :really: :poke: :o :boggle: :D You wouldn't want to see! It'd be hard to make it worse. Mind, I shouldn't talk - mine's not so much better......

Mr. Hall does harp on a bit, though........ getting in practice (he's good at that!).....

Well done, Ben! A real achievement on our sorts of flutes!

I'm soooo relaxed now that I've finished my own exams... results still to come, but I did manage to do all the singing and that went well.

I'd been worried that playing a Boehm flute would be detrimental to my wooden flute playing, but it doesn't seem to have worked that way. The more I play the upper octaves of the silver flute, the better my own wooden flute sounds... and it's so easy to nip up to highest F# now. Who would have thought!

Yesterday, in the concert band, we were presented with a piece in 6 flats - and I was so glad not to have to punish my wooden flutes with that!

Best,
Pamela

That's great, Ben! Remember this on your next "bad embouchure day."

Then again, don't. It'll make it all the more frustrating. ;-)

So true. Both statements. Bloody frustrating things, they are.

Thanks jim. Been a while since we've 'spoken'. Hope you're well yourself.

And Pamela: Firstly, I hope you get the results you want. Secondly, you should try Gb major some time (or F# major, whichever way you look at it). It's not so bad on "our sorts of flutes". I find plain old F major to be my own particular bugbear. Can't play in it. I'm gonna have to work on it.

Ha! Just goes to show - I find F major no bother at all on the wooden flutes...
