Oh, fer...

I said you raised the possibility. Whether you raised any weight I couldn't care less; I have the galling reality of my own avoirdupois to worry about and own without playing pot to kettle. Well, sometimes. Depending.

Tell us something.: I'm a fiddler and, latterly, a fluter. I love the flute. I wish I'd always played it. I love the whistle as well. I'm blessed in having really lovely instruments for all of my musical interests.

Ah, "avoirdupois". That's French for "peas in our time", isn't it? :)

I liked the Shatner one  :D . Separating the words and music to be able to use the words as poetry is quite cool. Don't know if Friday could be done with a straight face though :really:

I didn't listen to it, because if it's worse than these two, I'll commit suicide.

Billy Don't be a Hero?
It seems very strange to have an antiwar song at the end of the Vietnam conflict referring to a Union soldier in the Civil war sung by a UK pop group.

I thought it was "peas at any price". Maybe "whirled peas". I'll go check Babelfish. They're REAL good.

One of my favorite sports! Well, up until all the scandals of late. But I'm very sweaty. You might want to think better of it.

And here's breaking news: Simon Cowell thinks Rebecca Black's vid is the bee's knees. Judge as you see fit. No pun intended.

Nanohedron wrote:What IS perhaps novel are the lyrics in the sense that they are samplings from messages on internet social media like Twitter or Facebook, and that is of course very au courant. But there's still no work/craftsmanship involved, as I count it, unless cutting and pasting together a collage may be called work/craftsmanship.
Is this true? Because that would explain a lot.

What bothers me most about the song is the
fact that no one asked the singer to take some
lessons before attempting it. Miss Black sings
way up in her nose. There's nothing autotune
can do about bad tone. Also, whenever she
sings about "...looking forward to the weekend,
weekend", her voice is not detectable on the
"week" part. I think it might go too low for her.

I took it upon myself to look into other videos
by Ark Productions. The company seems to
have a stable of preteen singers and a huge
video budget. They're making music by
preteens for preteens without the Disney
Channel's marketing vehicle. Also, given the
video's high production value coupled with its
immature scene choices, I wonder if this is
manufactured virality. It's hardly the worst
song ever; there are probably worse songs
just within Ark Production's catalog.

But Ark does seem to have some singers
who don't need overproduction, and may
have a shot at being the next.... Oh, let's
say Ke$ha.

I've never been a fan of manufactured pop. Even as a kid I knew that there had to be more to music than The Osmonds, Bay City Rollers et al.
I discovered John Peel at an early age. He was my saviour. :D
This, like all manufactured pop, is 'product', pure and simple and a rather more vacuous than is usual. Its only intention is to make money for the manufacturer and it's aimed squarely at the pocket money of 'tweenies', no more no less.

And I'm a pompous, grumpy old git.

When is the line crossed to become manufactured? When the song writer and the singer are not the same? When someone pays for a piece to be made (through sponsorship)? When electronics are used to make music? When a committee designs a tune rather than an artist creating a piece? .

For Manufactured pop, you have the added dimension of manufactured popularity. Some people want to feel part of a community and advertising and AstroTurfing can create the illusion of a community and cause popularity and notoriety. Marketing can make up for quality.

I will say we can be thankful Autotune wasn't around for "I'd Like to Teach the World to Sing".

It was ok, new to me as I had no heard of it before.

30 million hits in a month is ... quite alot. :boggle:

There were an additional 130 comments added to the page just within the time I listened to the video.

Manufactured notoriety. It seems it was mentioned on Tosh.0 or something and people have been clicking to see how "bad" it is. It is now linked here and probably received more hits due to it. The longer this artificial "controversy" lasts, the more air play the news, comedians, and others will get from it.
