Tweak Challenge

Post by Arch_Angel »

This may be the one of the worst whistles on the face of planet earth (hence not including the pseudo instrument played by Cpt. Jean Luc Picard). It dares to include itself in the category fipple flutes called "Penny Whistles". So hear to the challenge:

Create something of "value" from all pieces of this "musical instrument".

I'd like to hear some ideas on what winning categories to include.

My ideas so far include:
1. playable instrument
2. Art
3. Multiple item (including an actual musical instrument)
4. Multiple item (non-instrumental)
5. tool
6. Most satisfyingly destroyed to prevent it from contributing to the delinquency of a minor.

And here is the subject-

Have fun, be creative. If anybody wants to help make this challenge interesting, PM me. Post on category ideas, and entries. Challenge ending TBA based on interest and PMed suggestions. For now lets just say 30days after I make an announcement.

Wow look at the tonehole placement. The "scale" must be horrendous.

I'd have to put tape all down the front, turn the tube around, and drill all new holes on the back. But why :-?

I heard somewhere that they actually trimmed the end off a D whistle to make it fit the packaging. No comment....

Actually, I'd say ends, plural. That top hole is nowhere near halfway down the tube.

Am I correct in guessing that the OP does not actually own this, er, whistle, but that the info is drawn from Dale's article on the main C&F site?

I bet it was! So are you up to putting that thing to use and entering the challenge?

Interesting choice. I think that would be a great contender for the Tool category.
A trash bin made of a trash whistle.

JERRY, Jerrrryy :poke: Come-on. You know you want to have some fun with this.

By all means everybody feel free to use more than 1 whistle for the project. The more we use the more children we save.

Your right MTGuru. I'm looking for one now though. I figure I can save the book for my daughter and get her a real instrument. Anything I make I won't consider for winning but I'll post for hilarity.

I did run into it once before, at a thrift shop. I played two "notes" and ignored it before. However, I ran into it again in Dale's article and said hmm... That could be an interesting project. Like turning a beater car into a racing car, or at least field art. :boggle:

I would say it's more of a recycling project. Taking a useless subject (our "whistle") and creating something of more value. Like the kid who turned plastic bags into homeless shelters, or sculptures made of the rubbish of a torn down building.

The project Ideas I'm leaning towards are:
A back scratch (the inspiration for the post)
A sprinkler

The second idea would leave me with an excess of books, but I can donate them.
The source I found for these Cost $5.00 per set.

Guru, seriously sit back and have fun destroying a useless (and perhaps detrimental) toy, come back and show us what you made from it (or them).

It's too late. My gedankenwhistle is already winging its way on a round trip to Proxima Centauri at ~87% the speed of light, and won't be back here for around 9 1/2 years. Fortunately, thanks to Lorentz contraction, your whistle now seems twice as long as mine, and plays with perfect intonation in D.

(Yes, I know that both whistles would shrink relative to each other. But that would ruin the joke.)

Saw the "whistle" in half, buy one of these,

...and replace the original gag parts with the now-dismembered "whistle" parts.
