Neat! SO handy, aren't they? Conversations will never be the same.
"Say did you know the Chevy Nova doesn't sell well in Mexico..."
"Nope, snopes already says you're full of it."

I wonder how many Indian English peculiarities there are. I recently learned of a handy numerical word, "Lakh", when a coworker used it casually as if everyone knew what it meant.

Dang. I think I'm slow to change, but this young feller outdoes me every time.

You know, mine is with me just as my dumbphone ( ) ever was, but I'm struck by how the distinction is on a completely different level; with the seemingly endless other stuff it can do for my convenience, even at my comparatively limited amount of use it has me relying on it as a go-to resource like never before, and so I keep thinking of mine in terms of the word "vademecum". I might start dusting off that nowadays-forgotten word, since it fits so perfectly.

A friend of mine, a recently retired psychologist who is in his 60s, got his first cell phone --not smart phone, cell phone--about 3 or 4 years ago. There are holdouts here and there.

Nothing wrong with late adopters after all the bugs are gone. Sometimes cheaper too. And I like looking over my smarty friends shoulder anyway. :)

I have found two uses for my dumbphone. It has an FM radio, so I can listen to public radio all day. My wife can call me when I get lost shopping.

And the link proved most useful last evening. The same Indian fellow mentioned that he had recently enrolled in school, to which I replied, "When you graduate, just don't tell us you passed out. We'll worry." When he got over his surprise, he laughed.
