Wylde For Rudall & Rose c1833 on E-bay

There is a Wylde flute up on E-bay, 6 days left. One damaged key and a crack in the barrel, original box.
“One small salt spoon shape cup cover broken, but all parts present (photos 3 & 4).
This Flute would appear to be an early model made c1832-1835 for the firm of Rudall & Rose”
“PLEASE NOTE: NOT AVALIABLE TO OVERSEAS BIDDERS thank you.”
I didn’t scroll down to the bottom of the page to see the amendment:
“PLEASE NOTE THIS ITEM IS AVALIABLE TO OVERSEAS BIDDERS”
On the barrel:
WYLDE
FROM
RUDALL & ROSE
15 NEWINGTON
CAUSEWAY
LONDON.

Item number: 220856627602

Looks like an F flute w/Eb foot from the length? That 15 NEWINGTON CAUSEWAY address is not in Langwill’s for Wylde or any associated firm, although it’s close to all his other recorded addresses. Also, that’s “From Rudall & Rose”, not “for”.

My concert pitch F Boosey Pratten’s is 47cm (18 3/4") from centre embouchure to end of foot joint (eight keys)
Hawkes Eb CP 56.5cms (22 1/4") eight key

Save your hot air for blowing down your flute

I have always problems finding flutes on eBay due to lack of broadband. when found of course would like to buy at a reasonable price. What is the form here on this forum as other forums frown on advertising what is on eBay etc? Not bad for the seller, but bad for a prospective buyer.

Not out for a ding dong …just guidence as I noted some seller had to justify his prices after a thread was posted on his wares & was duly ripped apart.

And this one’s 19 1/2" from centre of embouchure to end of foot joint (7-key, no long “F”), but a different bore, so that makes it likely, what? A=430 or slightly below?

That’s always a guess, could be closer to Eb - Dunno.. It may be that you are right - F?

Lack of broadband can be a major problem if you’re bidding on ebay. Get the fastest you can afford. How many flutes are you after? It’s an open global market and some people are richer than others. Also the rich don’t like paying taxes, at least in the USA.

On this forum transparency rules. Every woman/man for herself/himself, get it out there and may the best woman/man/child win, or whoever has the most money

Speaking for myself, if I see an interesting wooden flute up for sale anywhere on the net, on e-bay, or at coming auction, I announce it here as most of the people on this forum are interested in talking about flutes, especially old English flutes. Good for the seller and also good for the buyer who didn´t know a flute was up for grabs.

Thanks for the response & as you write it is not that I can buy the fastest kit but is due to unavailabilty in the area I have no chance. I am after replacing many flutes that were stolen. So as transparency rules, I’ll post this again at the bottom which has been updated since posting on the forum pages before & IF you see any of these types for sale, will you please contact me direct as well as alerting the world and his dog:-)))

Like to buy the following in wood or ebonite. x5 or x6 keyed

Boosey & Co… F flute & F Piccolo. (Also Bb bass with curved head)
Henry Potters… F & Eb Piccolos. (Also Bb Bass flute curved head)
Rudall Carte… Eb flute & Eb & F piccolos. (Also Bb Bass curved head)
Hawkes Crown AZ… Eb & F piccolos.

Even broken bits, as I might be able to find a use for some parts here Eg: I have a (head or two) for a Bb and so on Direct contact if better see below? Cheers Neil.

I’m definitely not interested in piccolos, or flutes in odd (to me, I’m a D man as regards timber flutes) keys so I won’t be sounding the alarm. I can contact you if I do happen to see a piccolo, and I remember. I´m sorry that you had your flutes stolen, I didn´t know that.

Good for the seller and also good for the buyer who didn´t know a flute was up for grabs.

Not so good for the buyer who has been assidiously searching e-bay for a deal on an antique flute though and found a listing that others didn’t :poke: , but that is another issue altogether (but is why I have personally decided not to list e-bay auctions unless they have already expired or I am the seller)

In any case this one appears to have gotten away pretty cheap ($847), though perhaps not, being as this flute probably wasn’t in the key of D and modern pitch.

… is it my imagination … or

do English pronvenance flutes (historical) sell much more than German ones?

I always get outdone on snaring an antique flute that isn’t a tube of crock! And the gems, or would be ones

I don’t mind high pitched flutes per se - it’s the high pitch I don’t like.

If that thing can get up close to an Eb id say it’s a freaking bargain.

The Wylde’s I’ve played from just that time have been remarkable.
