Okey..maybe I’ve gone too far, but I just think this is cool. It’s made from ebony with a delrin fipple, tuneable, soprano D…plays just like my other whistles..
Oh, and believe it or not..the whistle in the background is wood..NOT white pvc…it’s actually lilac…smells great!
A THREE Piece TUNABLE High D!!! Who, what WHY? Two Piece tunable sure… but three. Did the person who made this whistle need an instrument that could be smuggled out of the country jammed in unmentionable orafices? 
I mean Sure I can see a three Piece Low D… But a high D? The longest Pice is what 3" long? Maybe… 
Thos tuning slides are like a mile long. Serpent could make like 3 Brass Pollys out of one of those tuning slides

However, it seems that your extra-long tuning insert will defeat your initial purpose, i.e. keeping the longest section as small as can be.
Here, a short cork-joint assembly might be useful.
Does lilac wood smell like the flowers? Where do you get suitably large pieces from this thin trunked shrubby bush?
Davey, is that a hemp on the third (?) part?
looks like a pipes’ chanter…is that a normal feat (wiring a thread of hemp around the joint) on Irish flute etc as well? just curious..
Ah, you’d want to build a nice wooden (wooden) case for it, too!

Tuning slide–> it’s not “extra long” it’s actually part of the design of my regular whistles. It’s an extension of the bore and aids in keeping the tuning correct, otherwise there can be wave form perturbations in the upper bore if it’s excessively larger than the lower bore. Yep. believe it or not, if I were to cut 1/2 inch off the slide it affects the tuning.
This was/is a prototype, and I took one of my “shop seconds” to “cut down”
Yep, that’s hemp on the joint. It works perfectly well. Just as well as cork does. 6 of one, half dozen of the other! (again, think prototype)
Lilac…yep..smells lovely. Most of the pieces I have were too small, or too cracked to use for a whistle body. This is a rare creation. I got a 4ft square box of the stuff at a local wood auction. The reason for the purpleheart fipple is because I simply couldn’t find a piece of lilac to MATCH the strikingly white body..so rather than look terribly ugly with a somewhat off-color fipple, I chose a contrasting and complimentary color
I’m afraid I’m gonna have to agree with Zub here. That long tuning slide does keep it from being as portable as one might hope. Also, I would worry about it getting dented or grimy, and therefore freezing up. Finally, that middle joint tenon looks awfully short. Does it hold nice and tight and stable?
However, it is a very cool idea, and a pretty whistle. Could we see a picture of it assembled?

…again..keep in mind I made this whistle at about midnight to 1:00am last night! :roll:
The middle tenon holds just fine…given the finger hole spacings I was very limited as to where I cut put the joint.
I did think of a resolution to the tuning slide “dilemma”…I can make the slide removeable…which would make it a 4 piece whistle! 
I like it! Looks very nice, and I love the collapsability.
You don’t need a play-tester, eh? I’d be willing to do it for free, just for you, Davey my buddy.
You could even make a whistle puzzle with six separate holes 
.
Seriously, I’d agree on the need for a robust case to keep it clean, and I understand the sentiment about trying to have equilength sections (more or less). Look forward to seeing it as an A or a G whistle…THAT would be of interest.

The lilac with purpleheart is cool too. I tried to make one out of chokecherry, but rushed the drying time so I’ll have to wait until next year’s pruning time.
Paul, lilac isn’t always a bush. I had 3 lilac trees on my property when I lived in Tacoma, WA. It’s all in the pruning. The trees were all at least 50 years old and the trunks were probably 8" in diameter. Still, they continued to try to send up more bush from their base and roots. They had to be cut back several times a summer.

Second Erik. I use to work in a fine woodworking store and we sold turning stock in lilac. Too many years ago to remember the supplier, mebbe Handloggers in Richmond, CA. Our store closed, but original is still open, Woodsmith in Des Moines IA. They might have a clue but our West coast store was more esoteric.
I turned my own pair of claves in a Brazilian wood that was like purpleheart only darker yet. Too purple for rosewood, nobody knew what it was. It had a very toxicy dust while turning tho and I would wonder about the ol’ lip tingling cocus issue. Incredible sound tho.

the best part about the lilac is that I was able to get a 4ft x 4ft box of it in all shapes, sizes and condition for $5.00!! talk about a blue-light-special..

Hmm, could it be Pau Brasil? That’s the wood the country got named for. It used to be valuable as a source of red dye for clothing, was almost extinct once and is slowly coming back.
We’ve wandered off from the original topic…but I have to chime in. A 3-part collapsible whistle like this has one definite advantage for me: I COULD smuggle it in my cleavage. I’m actually serious here–I can almost snuggle in a disposable camera in there, although not quite.
I mean, how cool would it be to be walking along in a park, say in a summer dress, no purse or bag in sight–and then suddenly pull out a whistle! There are advantages to being a D cup, even musically as I am now finding out.
