I’d suggest putting yourself on John Sindt’s waiting list, then simply sell your Copeland. There IS a market for those, especially since yours is available without a wait.

While I can’t rule out that someone will take your offer, I find that the “approx. equal value” thing a bit off. To me that says more about the under-pricing of Sindts compared to their quality (and perhaps the overpricing of Copelands): For me at least, a Eb/D/C set of Sindts would represent a far bigger value than a “mere” Copeland D.
I’ll second brewerpaul’s suggestion that you get on Sindt’s waiting list and sell the Copeland.

I hate to say it, but I agree. I bet you could sell your Copeland for the price you bought it, but I doubt if anyone will trade Sindts in Eb, D and C for it, even though the monetary value is similar. I have a full set of Sindts - Eb, D, C, Bb, A - and there are very few things I would trade them for. That Eb whistle is a gift from the gods. My suggestion - get on John’s waiting list, and in the meantime make do with your Copeland D and some Generations in Eb and C. They’re really not that bad, I promise. When your spot on the list comes up go ahead and sell the Copeland to pay for the Sindts.

Well… I kinda figured that I would probably have to do what you all are suggesting… As I was writing the initial post I had the same feeling about the value issue…
I actually allread have a great C whistle (O’Riordan) but I love my Bb & A Sindt so much that I’d like to have the full range…
I think what I’ll do is keep my Copeland and get on his waiting list like you all suggest… Part of the reason for this is because I realized that I probably need my Copeland for the Session that I lead… I started it last night and my O’Riordan in the low register wasn’t loud enough… It’s a learning session so I need to be audible enough to teach the tunes… The Copeland will probably be great for that… (didn’t bring it with me last night…) Anyway… thanks for the input and the kind words (Brewerpaul)…

Yeah, you might want to hold onto that Copeland for a while. The Copeland high Ds I’ve played were super-loud, and if you are planning on running a session you might need that extra volume. My Sindt D is loud enough, but I don’t think I’d want to lead a crowded session with it. The only whistler I know around here who leads a session is Kathleen Coneely (sp?), and she swears by her Sindt D, but she usually plays with a mic.

This reminds me of back in the day when Copelands were the hottest thing on the planet. I bought a Copeland in D, decided it was a great whistle but not quite my style, and then put it up for auction on E-bay. The darn thing sold for something like $450!!! I couldn’t believe it. It was the money from that sale that I used to put a deposit down on my Michael Grinter flute
