Will ye go, Lassie, go? A parody

During our Shenanigans St. Patrick’s Day gigs, we sang the old classic Will Ye Go, Lassie, Go
At one point, our lead singer commented that the song title suggested a frustrated guy walking his dog in the early morning. That idea rattled around my head for a couple of weeks, with the following result:

Oh the winter is upon us
And my toes are quickly freezing
And this Collie of mine
Sniffs each tree and every hydrant.
Will ye go, Lassie, go?

Chorus:
And we walk out together,
But you take too much time
Sniffing every tree and hydrant.
Will ye go, Lassie, go?

I would build for you a kennel
With a heated bowel of water
And in it I’d pile
Heaps of bone and mounds of kibble,
If you’d go, Lassie, go!

Chorus

If my dog she were gone
I would surely find another
With a bladder more willing
And a more compliant colon.
Will ye go, Lassie, go?

Chorus

Nice one, Paul!
I’ll try that one down the Folk club, if I may.

By all means. Let me know how it goes over.

I have that dog.

It was good. They liked it. They even sang along with the chorus.

I had to tweak the words a bit. Hydrants in the UK are flush with the paving, so they aren’t a feature for dogs, here. I sang “every tree and lampost”.

I just think it’s appalling folks don’t realize dogs need to check p-mail as much as humans check e-mail.

Thanks! You made my day
