It’s got a whole lot of keys. Weird ones. What notes are those really long ones for? I guess the one going downwards is for a low B or something? How about all those ones going upwards? I haven’t seen a flute like this before. Maybe that just shows me to be inexperienced, but I’m curious. Anyone know?
It has the normal 8 keys, plus (for what I can see)
low B
second Bb for RH
second G# for LH thumb
High D trill key
High E trill key
those instruments were very common at the end of 19th century, some of them are sometimes referred to as “Nach meyer”, “Meyer system” or “reform system”.
In general, the sound is a bit dull, and not very powerful. I know some people on that forum who own german flutes and are happy with them.
Those really long keys on that flute are weirdly interesting-looking. Mabey it was originally made for a person with a disability like arthritis…just a guess.
The one on ebay definatley looks like a Meyer copy to me also. It was probably made in a factory the quiality could range from good to Pakistani it is really hard to say without playing it.
Well it’s a viennese Ziegler. Those with a low G are called “panaulons” and are very hard to find. I saw one in Paris years ago.
Viennese flutes are sought after those days by classical musicians… I saw recently several performances of romantic orchestral music using period instruments, including flutes by Ziegler and Koch, another great austrian maker.
If you really want a low G viennese (are you sure??? ) maybe you could ask those makers, who make viennese flutes copy:
That is one killer foot! I wonder how the balance of the flutes is, I guess it wouldn’t be head heavy! I wonder what the weight of this flute is, it looks like it could use some wheels on the end of it to cart it around!

You know how many times I have dreamed of being able to play all the stuff I could play on Mandolin on the Flute. But they are just a little (like a few thousand euros which is even more in my currencey US) out of my price range. It looks like it has a large bore oh man I still want one I must find a way.
