Just seems like most of the activity here now is buying and selling. Is there a reason those ads aren’t in the Used Instrument Exchange subforum instead of cluttering up the discussion forum?
Allowed by the C&F CCCP.
1 post in the UIE, which does not allow responses, only updates or bumps by the OP.
1 post in an appropriate instruments forum, for potential discussion. Others may comment and/or ask questions, or otherwise discuss.
Because that type of posting is allowed in both areas, which you’d know if you’d read the forum rules…..
Discussions have been had on the forum more than once about where for sale/wanted ads should and shouldn’t be located. For better or worse the decision was made to allow such ads in both places.
The real issue at this point is perhaps that so little non-sale, non-gear, actual music related discussion happens anymore, which makes the for sale postings seem disproportionate. Sadly many of the more experienced, knowledgeable and musically minded members have long since stopped posting and/or visiting this place, so this is what we’re left with.
I think the current setup is ideal, actually.
Wisely the “classified” section doesn’t allow itself to become a discussion forum. It stays uncluttered.
However there are times when discussion is called for, for example when the seller has insufficient or incorrect information.
But I do agree that it’s not a good thing when there’s little discussion of the music going on.
Agreed, over the years it’s become apparent there is a need for:
-
A place for sellers to post where no discussion is allowed, because that can be problematic for a variety of reasons, so sellers may choose to sidestep all of that.
-
A place where questions can be asked about the instruments for sale, and appropriate comments/corrections can be made publicly so the seller doesn’t have to cover the same items many times individually via PM’s or email.
The current system seems to work well.
But I do agree that it’s not a good thing when there’s little discussion of the music going on.
Fortunately there are still a few folks around like yourself and Peter who continue to contribute on actual music matters, on the rare occasions such discussions occur.
Thanks for the clarification folks. I agree its sad there doesn’t seem to be as much flute discussion. Perhaps it wouldn’t look so flooded with ads if there were a bit more.
Heh heh, I have been wondering about making some bold assertion to whip up a frenzy of refutation and dispute. Something along the lines of “…”, nah, I won’t telegraph my punches. “Leave them fearing more” is my motto…
