Flute is SOLD thank you!
Up for sale is the prettiest flute I have had the pleasure of playing yet, and a very sweet tone to match. It has Casey’s wide silver rings with the ridges on either end that really give the flute a very classy look. It also has the tuning slide with partially lined head, which helps give it the sweet woody tone. The Blackwood is highly polished and tight grained unlike some you see today that look very grainy and rough. The flute is in excellent condition, no cracks, no repairs and only a few minor wear marks, has been oiled, well cared for, and played. It has the short, non vented foot. The bottom hole (low d) is slightly offset, with an easy reach to it too, compared to some other flutes.
It has the ability to be played softly, but I think is best suited to leaning into it with more force, and you are rewarded with a full, throaty tone with good volume-the reason why you would want a Blackwood flute. It never seems to become piercing, like some fully lined flutes can.
It has a reedy bottom D, not as hard as a lined head, but still with good presence. The bottom D is slightly flat when played softly, or if you don’t adjust your embouchure accordingly. It’s just a matter of getting used to it, as with many flutes.
This would be an excellent flute for anyone, but if you need a little help with the stretch to the last hole, this is one that will help a lot. It will also help with the standard grip, if that is what you want to use for the low hand, so you can easily transfer to a keyed flute in the future. Or, you can have Casey retrofit keys to this one, which he will do on his pro model flutes. And you have a maker who always stands behind his products, and is close by for help if you need it.
The price is $700, which includes a hard pistol case, and Priority Mail Insured shipping in the lower 48 states (about $12-$15). New retail is now $975 with all the options, plus shipping. This is being sold for a friend of mine who has graciously let me “baby sit” this until he was ready to sell it-he has a blackwood allergy, and thus the sale.
So, save the wait time of 5-8 months on a new one, and about $300 right off the top. You will get a wonderful flute to play at your next session, or in time for your holiday tunes!
