Anybody have such…comments please..
I’ve a Ray Sloan full set made from AB, which is his normal material, although he will use other woods.I’ve not seen such materials other than his boxwood mountings which are pretty nice. Any way, Ray’s workmanship and eye for detail is excellent. My pipes are a great set, they sound and look every bit as good as they do on his web site.
Hope this helps, feel free to pm me for more info.
Have a Sloan Practice set in Blackwood. Seems to play OK but tuning is a bit suspect in second octave from A upwards with all three reeds.
Hope to be at Leeds this weekend and join in a session or two - will let you know how they compare with other makes.
Advice would be to do the same but with your location uilleann pipers and makers are few and far between if they exist at all.

Be careful what you post - how are you judging the tuning on a practice set without a drone for reference e.g. are you comparing it with a keyboard. Pipes are tuned to a harmonic based scale (approx ‘Just’ intonation) not to Equal Temperament (Piano’s, guitars etc.)
Are the reeds by the maker or a third party ?
The tuning of the second register can vary depending upon how the reed is constructed - especially the staple. Fingering is also sometimes better left open in the upper octave but keep the little finger on the ghost d especially if playing off the knee.
