We’re looking at a tour of the western Rocky Mountain states in just under three weeks. The very tentative itinerary looks like this.
Sept. 12th Grand Junction/Clifton Colorado. Friends and music - might even make a full blown session out of it if we can get everyone out!
Sept. 13th the first ever “Colorado Uilleann Piper’s Tionol” in Denver. Session after open to all I’m sure. Besides, after a day of nothing but pipes, I think ANYBODY would be praying for some other instruments to join in !
Sept. 14th Lander Wyoming. Badger hunting. Yep, we’re gonna find you Tom, and we’re gonna MAKE you teach us Thumper’s Jig SLOWLY this time! Perhaps a bit of free climbing again if time and weather permit.
Monday should see us back in Salt Lake City where at least two of us will be longing for a decent nights rest.
If anyone has questions, or would like to add anything forgotten here, please feel free to contact me.
John, the next time you’re coming near Seattle, Boise, Salt Lake, Grand Junction, Denver, or the boondocks of middle Wyoming, post on the board and we’ll set you up with a session.
If you can drop me an email I’ll forward you all the information I have so far and a number for Brian Cassidy - who’s putting the tionol/session together at his place.
I think September 14 should work for me, though I don’t know about making the trip to GJ as I’ll be chasing elk with a friend of mine that thursday, Friday, and Saturday (just to pet them, understand).
But heck yeah, come on up sunday, (or even Saturday night) for breakfast, worship, some climbing, maybe a session that night. Oh, how’s about let’s get a good nap in between climbing and session this time around???
Tom
p.s. I’m working, really, just taking a little break. I’ve been sorting pep band music all day and my eyes are pointing different directions.
p.p.s. Brian, what on earth IS that thing on that motorcycle?
Joe Graham has been working on a schedule for his Celtic event that will be September 27. He called me today for the first time since we talked weeks ago.
His program includes a half hour informal whistler session in the foyer (not on stage) while folks are gathering for an evening concert.
Not having seen the rest of his schedule disallows me knowing or telling what the rest of the day will be like.
I’ll not play there alone so if I don’t get any responders I will call Joe and have him cut that from his program.
Man! A second festival of sorts in two weeks?! I’m gonna have to take out a small loan to buy the gas! But I WILL BE THERE if there is any way possible. No kilt this time though. I don’t want to risk the heat stroke from the kilt, as well as have Ron send me another therapy bill from the photos of me in said kilt!
Bri~
P.S. Tom, have you never seen ‘Waking Ned Devine’??? Find it. Buy it. Watch it. It will all become clear grasshopper! nudge nudge

Mack… I dont know the whole deal.. but I know what I know. Outside the Door and around the corner from where you are situated… people will be greeted with the hideous and ghastly sound of “fighting cats” (or words to that effect).. I know this because I am the cat handler.
On the interesting side.. if some of the other local Pipers are there.. they will likely be just around the corner within your earshot complaining about how I “didnt have the common courtesy to cover my pipe bag with a plain black velveteen cover”.. (I might even be sporting my bag cover made from the felt on a now unservicable pool table at Quinceys.. Interestingly enough.. there is enough material left over to make a Felt lined ballistic nylon whistle bag of some sort. The Whistler that comes from the furthest away to play with you will walk away with said case… )
And your pipes don’t intimidate me in the least. I have ear protection.
So is that to block out the sound of Pipes coming from outdoors… or to block out the aforementioned sound of Whining???
I might have to Bump up the offer of Freebies & Schwag…
I just need to know how many cases to bring along..
What kind, size and what its made from is anybodies guess as I dont even know yet.
Unless the festival turns out to be pretty big or the airfare turns out to be pretty small, I’ll likely be giving this one a miss, unfortunately. Still in the unemployed bracket and I have yet to count up how much I’ve spent this summer! But keep me posted, as you never know…
In the meantime, for the RMBS on the weekend of the 13th: Ben and I will be coming to town either Thursday night or Friday morning. We’ll be leaving Tuesday morning.
I’d like to get together with SLC folks who aren’t going on the trip at some point, possibly Monday night? Since we all know different tunes at this point it wouldn’t be a session, I think. But just a visit.
I’m SO there! Free stuff to be had AND another chance for Joan’s world-famous French Toast breakfast?!?! You’ll need the National Guard to keep ME away - (in my very best swashbuckling voice) “HA HA!!”
I don’t want to risk the heat stroke from the kilt
I happen to make a unique product .. and whatnot..
What I dont half fancy Brian, or perhaps one of you other UP pipers who might come to Grand Jct… I need to borrow a bag cover for a few hours. I will bring it back, I promise… however you wont want it any more, you will be wanting the one I replace it with.
