Hi,
Does anyone have any advice as to where I could get hold of a secondhand wooden flute in Europe? Websites etc…
I play a metal flute at the moment and really want to start learning on a wooden one but can’t really aford one new.
Thanks,
Ay
Hi
I’m not familiar with European flute markets, but let me ask, what could your budget be?
There are low cost flutes, made of plastic, or aluminum, which can be purchased for far less than the price of a wood flute, yet they are fully functional.
I could go up to 1000 euro, ideally with a few keys, maybe thats impossible? I’d also be up for trying a plastic one to learn on. Do you know any makers?
One thousand Euro could purchase almost any of the current keyless flutes made of wood. Keyed flutes, however, can be much more expensive.
One popular beginner’s keyless flute made of plastic sells for about 100 USD. Another popular beginner’s keyless flute made of wood sells for about 400 USD.
(USD = US Dollar)
Do you need a chromatic flute? I play a Boehm system flute, which is chromatic, but many of the players here only use keyless, diatontic flutes.
Gilles Lehart would be an option for you. He’s in France. He charges 600 euros for a D flute made from blackwood and 90 euros per key. You could get a new (!) six-keyed top-quality flute for 1140 euros with a very low waiting period. His homepage is http://lehart.free.fr/
Thanks I’ve just had a look at his website and it looks possible, are his flutes well thought of?
Yes.
Good luck!
Yes, there are a number of players in Germany who play his flutes, and I tried I think 6 or 7 Leharts or so. Every single one was a very nice piece of work and a great player. I’m also expecting a Lehart flute in Bb this october.
