I just learned of the passing of Gary Humphrey Jr. on September 3, 2025 via a tribute video from “whistle tutor” on You Tube today. I never owned or played one of his whistles but have heard many good things about them. It is sad to me when any of the whistle makers pass on but especially since Mr. Humphrey was only 55 years old. So sad that we have lost a contributor to the whistle family.

Sorry to hear that. I had one of his for a while.
Never met him but had some email exchanges over the years. I had been in Sparta, TN for the solar eclipse of 2017 and we had some good back-and-forth about our experiences of that memorable event, which made quite an impression on both of us. Was recently enough in contact again to discuss a potential whistle order, he was great to deal with and obviously very knowledgeable about the finer point of whistlemaking. The whistles of his I’ve played have been excellent.
My thoughts are with his family, 55 is young!
Yes, so tragic. I had the pleasure of chatting with him a few times. Our whistle conversations often shifted to cycling since another of his passions was building his own e-bikes. His whistles are wonderful. I have a couple myself, with a classic sweet whistle tone that is clear.
When I looked up his obituary, I also saw that his father passed away earlier this year. My deepest condolences to his family.
Sorry to hear. He was so nice when I messaged him about his whistles. I’m lucky enough to have one of his low F whistles.
