Anyone try the ring flute yet? www.ringflute.com
Says it’s in A only, and from the size of it that looks like A a semitone lower than a Bb fife.
I’ve played a Bb fife. i have no great desire to do so again.
I think we have a record here!
Over seven months since the last ring flute thread!
Wow - my tuner was jumping all over the place!!
I wonder where I could get a reverb like that?
Flute would be good for hanging toilet paper as well
Must buy!
Its Bb, so its like a clarinet, right?
Oh, I misread. Its in A.
Thats kind of weird… I still think I’m gonna get one.
I have one sitting before me as we speak. I REALLY wanted to love this thing, but I haven’t warmed to it. The first and most major problem is that you have to entirely relearn your fingerings because the flute is laid out backwards. In other words, to play a scale you start removing fingers from left to right, not right to left as on a regular flute. There’s also a thumb hole on the right hand to contend with. Plus, cross fingerings are needed for some notes, and the second octave is quite difficult to play. I find the hand position very akward and uncomfortable. All in all, this is an interesting musical novelty but in my hands not very useful as an instrument.
Thank you for the interesting info Paul.
I think it’s kind of cool looking. After reading Brewer Paul’s remarks, I got to thinking about it… Hmmm… An aluminum alto A and a conduit bender, and … ummmm…
No.
