The perfect backup instrument for your whistles and flutes.
(we’re talking quality here, I think)

I think you’re right. http://www.octavemandolin.com/html/look.html
Darn! Now, in addition to WhOA, I’ve been attacked by BOA.
Beautiful instrument. If only I had more money.
I did bid early on and then received a very, very suspicious email from someone offering to sell me one off of the ebay system eventhough it would have all the protection of ebay. I forwarded it to ebay for investigation.
Did anyone else get a similar offer. There was no specific $ amount mentioned and there was no way that I was going to contact this person.
But back to the Trillium. It’s absolutely gorgeous.
take care

Think Foley.
Think Foley.
Sounds familiar. I went back to my “Favorites” and I have the Trillium website saved but not Foley. Another maker? Website or full name so I can do a search?
thanks

obviously I haven’t got the “quote” thing figured out yet.
Sorry, I must be having computer gremlins; tried to access Joe Foley’s site a couple of ways so I could post an URL for you, but I’m getting balked all around. Stefan Sobell is another name you might look at. There are a lot of good makers out there. I’m partial to Foley for the plump tone, but then I play cittern, and I like the presence in the bass courses while the trebles are strong, too. If you want a thinner tone -and there are good reasons for that- you need to do some hands-on comparisons if you can, or do some live listening, preferably unplugged.
Signatures of Foley’s include his ball-end guitar string friendly tailpiece (big resounding YES), somewhat decorative pick guard, and decorative thingamabobs atop the tuning head (he’ll customize that, or leave it out if you don’t care for the thrust-and-parry of dealing with the occasional smartaleck comments about it, but it makes a great hook to hang your gizmo on the wall, lacking a stand).
Just got a good pickup installed in it, and the luthier shimmed the bridge. The tone is more open and sturdy, now, but I may go back to the original setup. Others seem to like the change.
Drool!
At the moment it looks like good value but I’d like to hear from someone else who’s played one. I also doubt that it will sell for the current price. The new price makes it comparable (roughly) to a McDonald, Fylde, Sobell or Stuart which means that, to be worth that much, it had better be as good as the best in the world.
Now if it really sounds like a sar major on steroids, this is not the instrument you want. This makes me seriously sceptical about the rest of the claims made by the seller. A good bouzouki has a nice clean ring and sustain and a bit of character in the tone but bark it does not.
