Chicago Celtic Fest is featuring a piping tent again this year, on Sunday, September 13, 11AM to about 5:45PM.
Performers will include Tom Creegan (5PM) and Tommy Martin (3PM), as well as local pipers Sean Ryan(1PM), Kevin Henry (4PM), Jeff Lindblade (Noon), and yours truly (2PM). Also a special “pipe melee” by members of the Chicago Uilleann Pipers Club and invited guests will kick things off at 11.
It should be a great, sunny day by the lake this year. Come listen if you have the chance.
Family’s running late (not sure who’s worse, the wife or the 5 year old ), but we’ll be down there in time to catch Pat & Tommy’s sets. Looking forward to it, as usual!
Excellent day of piping, helped out by the fantastic weather we had on the shores of Lake Michigan!
Props to the pipers that took the time to come to the Windy City to perform and help support the continued growth of uilleann piping in the Chicagoland area – we appreciate your efforts and look forward to seeing you again soon! And for Messrs. Cannady and Kellum, thanks for your continued support and involvement in the piping tent, as you both seem to make everything come off without a hitch (with an additional shoutout to Pat and his wife Karen, for playing yet another tight set of pipes & fiddle!).
Most important, though, special props to Kevin Henry, whose decades-long contributions to Chicago’s Irish traditional music scene through piping, fluting and recitations is simply too great to be quantified. I’ve never heard a storyteller quite like him, and I’m doubful I ever will. IMHO, he is, quite simply, the Dean of Chicago ITM.
Glad it was a better day for you this year. I was at O’Hare just about the time Sean took the stage and saw what a gorgeous day it was and said a little decade for yiz
Many thanks to Bob, Chris, Pete, Joe, Karen, John, Jeff, Sean (and Joe?), Tommy, Kevin, and Tom for a successful day of music and fun on a brilliant, sunny day.
We were treated to weather pipers in the Midwest seldom see but cherish with all of their being: a day when the bloody things WORK! lol.
What a great time was had! We missed ya, PD, you would have enjoyed the day! Big thanks to all involved, it was great to hear all the uilleann pipers! Kinda miss the two day event, it is the best place to hang out during CelticFest for the most traditional music, that is for sure. We just had to make that one day count!!
