Anyone know the identity of the piper in the glass plate slide at the end of this page http://www.uilleannobsession.com/diary_2004.html
A young Jem Byrne or John Doran Snr. perhaps?

The bottom piper is Jem Byrne…hmmmm…could be a younger version of himself.
Joe,
How funny would it be if his foot on the ground was his right foot…
BTW, I’ll see Mike and Sean on Tuesday night. I’ll tell them hi for you!
Tommy
hey Tommie, are you going to do another pipers weekend?
Jeff
Isn’t that first photo from an Irish Spring commercial?

Excellent! Tell Mike to give me a shout. I have a bunch of CDs for him but I need to get his mailing address again.
About the foot…man, that’s gotta hurt.
Anybody ever try one of these modified walking sticks? I just tried playing standing up with my foot at that height and the regulator keys were much easier to access.
Looks highly likely that it could be Jem to me. I don’t think I’ve ever seen a photo of John Doran Snr? They have similar jaw lines and brows. Both chanter enter the bag in a similar fashion but the photo of Jem as an older man has him with regs… maybe a later addition? They aboth are wearing a similar style long jackey too… representative of the style of the time and possibly his own personal taste.
Hmm… it’s a beautiful image whomever the piper and family might be.
Patrick.
What WOULD you call that stick/cane thing…“Piper’s third leg”???
…sounds a bit like one of “those” tune titles..wink wink…
so we have 3 legs and 11 fingers! Egad.
There’s a photo of John Sr. in the liner notes of the NPU Doran CD. He has the leg up as well, resting on the pipe case.
In an old An Piobarie there’s an account of Dinney Delaney, the Galway piper; it mentions that in the old days, pipers carried their instruments around in a “blue buttoned bag,” and that pipe cases seemed to be a 20th century development.
What WOULD you call that stick/cane thing
They used to call it a “Pipers crutch”

They used to call it a “Pipers crutch”
…and here, all these years I was thinking the “Piper’s Crutch” was a bottle of Jameson’s or Paddy or Tullamore Dew…
