This are the makers in Europe I’ve found that make relatively unexpensive keyed pratten model flutes. Cotter would be another one (a bit more expensive), i was going to order from him, but he doesn’t make post-mounted keys, not even on request. The blocks usually get in the way with my piper’s grip, so now I’m looking for somebody else.
Any thoughts or preferences or comparisons about this makers? Or, is there anyone else you can think of? i’d like to stay below 2000 euros (5 keys), and the waiting list not over 6 months (I don’t know the waiting list for Ormiston though, and in this moment I can’t get into his website). Non pratten but large bore flutes are also fine… Thanks!
Just sent a pm.
Martin Doyle makes a great large bore flute (my avatar is one of his in Rosewood) for a five key flute it would be 2000 euro; but that doesn’t include a tuning slide. His website says that it could take two years to make a flute and is often less time and a friend of mine got a keyed one of his a couple years ago and she waited less than two years. I don’t know if he does post mounted keys; but in my experience his block mounted keys are kind of bulky and did not fit my hands well. I don’t use piper’s grip or standard but play using the same parts of one’s fingers as one would while playing a whistle. Having said all of that his flutes are superb; I have had mine close to four years now and am still very happy with it I would have ordered a keyed one of his myself but like I said I don’t really like his key work as use an unusual grip and have very wide hands so I went down another road.
How about Gilles Lehart?

My current flute is a keyed Lehart. It’s great, but now I want to try a larger bore flute…
Look for/contact Glen Le Bot.. His flutes deserve it : http://www.glenlebot-instruments.com
I play with a flute made by Louis Jourdan (yet another breton ! )

Large bore, full and powerfull sound and reasonably priced (~600€ a keyless flute and 100€/key)
I’m very happy with mine, don’t consider change it for the moment.
Grrrrr apparently breton people don’t like english, this is so annoying!
The Glen Le Bot flutes look amazing, how do they play? Might have to get an Eb or F from him.
Breton people don’t even like French
Can I vote for a Doyle too, one of the great thing in Martins output is it’s consistently high quality with little variation from flute to flute, a have tried 10 or so now and they were all good. I have a few times with some other makers tried one flute that I found good and another that I didn’t like.
I am very happy with my LeJeune ruddle copy six key. Very reasonably priced compared to the opposition , and a top after sales service . Always nice to deal with.

you’re lucky website is not in breton !
forse con tu italiano puoi capire un poco di francese no ?

Well, yes, I can recognise many words, but it’s not easy to follow the general meaning…
Actually, i’ve discovered that the translator from french to italian works really well! Great.
