Olwell Bamboo

'Sup all - just a quick question…

Anyone out there got any idea what the current asking price and expected wait are for Olwell bamboo flutes in low C and Bb?

Thanks much,

Jamey.

The price list that Patrick included when he shipped my wooden flute a couple of months ago shows the standard D flute as the lowest available, perhaps he goes lower on special order.

For standard Bamboo flute orders, I’ve never had to wait more than 2-3 weeks, often they’ve arrived sooner.

I have a superb low C bamboo from Patrick. I do not think he goes any lower on his bamboo models. I think it cost about $140, but I can’t quite remember. I got mine quickly, but I got lucky since he had just made some.

I got my bamboo D from the House of Musical Traditions for around $90. It took two months to arrive (none in stock).

I’d suggest avoiding HMT mail order whenever possible, there have been numerous complaints about them, expecially when it comes to purchasing Olwell Bamboo flutes. Purchasing directly from Patrick seems to be the best way to go.

Right on Loren…and not just the bamboo flutes. Even plain ol’ cheap whistles. They took my money and didn’t send me my stuff. Made a whole lot of noise, and ended up with half of what I ordered. Since then, I’ve stuck with Thom Larson…and about to put Steve Powers on my list too.

HMT is nothing but trouble, in my humble opinion. Same with Lark in the Morning.

Yikes! As someone who grew up within a bike ride of HMT, I’d just like to say that you would probably have had a wonderful experience if you’d actually walked into their store. Clearly, special orders and mail-supply (to Malaysia!?!) is a horse of another color.

I can’t deny anything you said about HMT (the wait for a Bamboo Olwell is 6 months- I just asked them), but I just had to stick up for the folks who actually work behing the counter.

Well, the folks who work behind the counter didn’t deal with me very well on the numerous occasions I had to call them to try to straiten out an order of cracked Olwell flutes they sent me.

And, at least one of the people who works there outright lied to me on another occasion regarding a particular whistle. That after ignoring my courteous e-mail.

Now, many people have said that HMT is a great place to shop in person, and I don’t doubt that, however some of the same people who make an in-person shopping experience there pleasant, also make long distance transactions a major drag, and that’s a fact - plenty of feedback in the archives (from others) to back that up.

By the way, if a retailer is willing to sell and ship to Malaysia, then the distance from here to there is no excuse for poor service.
