Who’s the “young piper”?
Nice photos indeed!
Leo’s son Leon.
Some more photos. Different pipers this time:

I wonder who all the kids are, who they may have grown up to be! Gotta wonder if any of them were really influenced by the “close encounter”. I’d have probably wet my pants… How cool would it have been to be there seeing Leo play live!?
I’m wondering about the pipes Leon is playing in the first set of photos; I noticed what seems to be the baritone drone turned back on itself, with a round resonator like the bass. Would that be a flat set he’s playing?
John
No, looks like concert pitch. Leo built the bent-back baritone drone on occasion, Sean Seery’s pipes for instance. That may actually be Sean, who knows. Looks like Leon to me, though. Sean’s set is pictured at the Rowsome website.
The set in the photos isn’t the Sean Seery set, unless the regulator caps were changed later (which I doubt). The Seery set has ivory rings and ferrules between the ends of the timber section and the end caps themselves.
I hear that there were three similar sets with nickel-silver metalwork and a resonator on the baritone drone (all concert pitch of course). One was the Sean Seery set, one is currently owned by Kevin Rowsome (I believe), and I don’t know where the third one is (though I understand there are folks who do know).

Here’s a link to the Seery (and Touhy) set:

I notice also this set appears to have the up-swung regulator keys, like Rorybellows pix of the Kennedy set, but unlike the Touhy set made just a few years later. Has anyone seen any sets with the opposite configuration, i.e., down-swung keys?
John
